I'm really excited, but the price range is rather broad.

"It'll cost as much as a good mobile phone". So anywhere between $100 and $300, depending if you're talking RAZR/Treo good or LG good.

for that price, i hope it's a well-built keyboard. even though it will obviously have the sweetest keys, i hoping for adjustable brightness and solid construction, nice key feel, etc.

this could be an amazing product, but companies always seem to leave something to be desired when they release these things.

I thought this was a hoax for about a year. If they make a wireless version I'm all over it, regardless of price. Some things are just too cool.

that is pretty cool, I wonder if you can get a custom layout for all popular games with that keyboard..

Just purchased a logitech G15, so I think I will wait at least until they release the ergonomic version (hopefully in a year or so budget wise :) ). The ergonomic Optimus will make my day!

if it has good support it will be amazing, poor support, and its a cool gimmick but nothing else.

is going to be open source so any one can make key programs for it

I wonder if it's bundled with a (keyboard) screen saver, maybe making it look like a pac man demo (for instance) when not in use. Since it's one universal version it will keep costs down, but it will probably cost a lot anyway.

Edit:

It will feature a key-saver.
Ok.

Tomshardware said the cost is around $1 per key, so it will be about $100-150

for that ($100 ~ $150) price I am all over this... wow... I was thinking it would be more than that.. like $400 or so... OLED tech has come way down in price... and it's perfect for this application. I like the Matrix "key saver" idea... I was also thinking just waves of different colored light sweeping over the board in different directions would be cool... wow... heh.. I am sort of getting excited for this now. :D

Tomshardware said the cost is around $1 per key, so it will be about $100-150Did it say a key costs $1 or it will cost ~$1 a key? Big potential difference in that the keys may be cheap but then you have to add circuitry and body to that.

Revv23
01-11-2006, 11:16 AM
well how much could circuits be?

a decent mobo is $100, if its 1.50 per key, that $250ish if circiutry cost $100...

and i doubt they cost that much... id expect it to be closer to $120-200...

i keep changing my feelings on this, sometimes i feel like ill miss my hotkey's others i feel like i could just program them in... im not a fan of ergonomics on keyboards though, and the closer it is to a traditional design and shape the more likely i am to go for it. ahh my feelings are so mixed lol.

[XC] leviathan18
01-11-2006, 11:20 AM
1$ per key and the board shoul be pretty cheap not more than 20 imo there are cheap keyboards for 10$ but this is different so 20$ for that.... we 120$ in costs perhaps 180$ final price

make your bets the closest one to the final release retail price wins a cookie

Nice keyboard hopefully I can pick one up for under $100 though since I'm a poor college student.

Did it say a key costs $1 or it will cost ~$1 a key? Big potential difference in that the keys may be cheap but then you have to add circuitry and body to that.

Not to mention we are looking at COST. You have to factor margin in for the manufacturer, distributor, and reseller. Then, If there is a supply problem (which there will be), end user prices will jump over MSRP.

There is no way in hell all of this speculative ~$100 crap is true. (not to mention a Feb 1st release )

so which of the followings products do you guys will think will make it to market first?
