Plans for Dry Ice/LN2 Container... Bueno?

lately i've been chatting with an old friend down in chitown for a while, and we wandered onto the topic of computers, and i started babbling about cooling, and how i wanted a DI/LN2 tube... he wanted to know what that was - i showed him pics of some on these forums, and hes just sends a reply "give me dimensions and i can probably make it happen"

so if he can "make it happen", its going to be a 2" ID x 2 1/4" OD main tube - 12" tall

and a base thats 1/2" thick, and milled somewhat like this one that i found here on the forums, but with the center dimple enlarged a little bit, and grooves cut where the lines are:

i based this off of what i've read here so far, so please comment on it - i want to try make the best [affordable] brazed tube possible (machine shop doesnt have all the tools for making a solid one)



also... where am i able to get one of thoes nice LCD thermometers with the temp. probe as well as some good insulation tubing and tape?

Im sure that bottom model will work just fine but i have to say its not even near "best brazed tube possible". Its nice and symmetrical sure, but surface area is approximately ~50cm^2 and there arent really any fancy conduction paths from centre to sides or extra mass or surface area above cpu-core.

Tell what kind of copper chunks you have and perhaps we could improve that a bit? I think easiest way might be to add extra horisontal plate to middle like one in my sig.

Best brazed tube possible needs bottom to be made from single piece. And this would require quite large amount of copper.

Im going to make some research about this in near future.. four different containers are waiting for heatload tester to be completed now.

the machinist and my friend can get just about anything they need to... and mill it in most ways possible

so toss me some ideas and i'll see if its able to be done by my guy

if you get it done out of solid copper, I would do it similar to that, but the innner ring of circles would be a vertical pillar. I think that is what the japanese and kingpin use.

the ring inside of the black lines, with the 6 arrayed circles and the single circle in the center......convert that to area into a raised pillar that extends a couple inches towards the top (not sure how high). That puts alot of surface area and mass right above the core.
