In this project im planing on hard lining every piece possible.

This is how it started. With my old h2set. Yes my old h2o set was external and performed dam well. Im still runing it as I type this.

How the pump conects to the copper tube. I will use zip ties to make shure its secure though.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Web%20pics/DSC00778.jpg

Internal shot of the quick disconect plug.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Web%20pics/DSC00780.jpg

The pump conected to the sunbeam pcb. Mind you Im only going to use 3 chanels from the controller. 1 chanel for the pump, one for the top rad fans and 1 for the internal fans of the case.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Web%20pics/DSC00782.jpg

How it connects. Notice the behind the bezel pump rheostat. I dont want some idiot to turn my pump off so I put it hidde. After all I dont need to adjust it daily. Once will be enough.

Well the heatercore with some fittings on it. Including the compression fitting witch will join the tubes to the blocks via more tubes. The little elbow and cap will house those small threads shown on the heatercore inside them will be temp probes for my digidoc5.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-13-2005/DSC00803.jpg

Some supplies. Aluminum L and threaded rod some screws and bolts as well.

http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-13-2005/DSC00804.jpg

The heatercore with the other tube and sweating in the background on the case.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-13-2005/DSC00805.jpg

The small fittings I was talking about. They will be closed by a pice of copper wire and solder to provide the maximum acuracy pf temps withought leaking risks.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-13-2005/DSC00806.jpg

The core as it will reside in the case.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-13-2005/DSC00807.jpg

Small mod but it looks realy nice. I drilled the old holes wider and put in these nice chrome led holders.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-13-2005/DSC00808.jpg

And another profile shot of the led holders.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-13-2005/DSC00809.jpg

As with all my projects function is the main goal while still trying to make something atractive and still keeping with the old school modding styles.

The parts to make the temperature sensor. Including the sensor itself. Unfortunetly the sensor wont fit in the fitting at all so it needs to be bored out.

http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00811.JPG

The old trick of tape on a bit to keep from drilling too far down.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00812.JPG

The trusty clamp. Yup that clamp is probably allot older than me but it functions very well.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00813.JPG

After boring the part out you can see the sensor fit nice and snug.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00814.JPG

That copper wire will be soldered to the tip of the fitting and the fitting rebored to make shure the barel is nice and clean. The copper will provide a unubstructive flow and measure liquid temps very acurately (hopefully).
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00815.JPG

Torch and solder and flux ready to start. (Note I did remove the sensor from the fitting as not to melt it.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00816.JPG

After soldering. She is water tight.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00817.JPG

Time to measure the depth of the copper so it can measure from the middle of the water stream for most acurate temps.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00819.JPG

After soldering and installing the sensor.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00820.JPG
Note the sensor will make thermal contact with the conical end of the brobe with some thermal paste. But it has not been applied yet.

Now on to the rad mounting.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-14-2005/DSC00821.JPG
Yup I mounted the rad and she is in very good shape. The tolerances between the fittings and the optical drive are so small that I cant even put paper in between.

Bottom view of the fitting that will mate the pipes together so it can go in the water blocks.

I also made another sensor for my res. Being that the digidoc has 8 sensors I figured why not one to monitor temps on the largest body of water in the loop. It also provides an idea of how mutch heat the heatercore can remove if mesurable.

Here is the pic of the sensor. The copper strand this time is longer because I want an average temp of the liquid in the loop not the bottom temp only.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-17-2005/DSC00825.JPG

Closeup. The technique used to make this sensor is the same as the previous one but I used a pice from a fridge copper line for the ice maker for it and bored it to acept part of the barb and soldered them as one.

http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-17-2005/DSC00826.JPG

There she is in the bottom of the res.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-17-2005/DSC00828.JPG
PS: sorry for the blurry pic.

I also cut the top part of the case so I can slide it on. Took a while to make shure it was a tight fit.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-17-2005/DSC00829.JPG

Another shot.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-17-2005/DSC00830.JPG

Today i also recived my polarflow lga bracket and I decided to polish the bottom with some copper polish and it made it shine like a mirror. I then rubed off the layer of protection left to make shure proper contact can be secured.

Well I could not resist. After using some polish on my block and seeing how well it removed the crap from the copper i decided to polish one of the copper tubes to see how nice I can get it.

After a fiew minutes. This is the result.

I have been thinking of wat to do with the front. So I went to home depot tonite for insipiration. I walked around for about one hour to check out all the ahrdware. I then walked in the hardware section for the third time and these handles cought my eye. Its a pro pack of 10 handles for 20bux. Versus the 3.83 per handle separatly. The thing that cought my eye is the way they were packaged. At the moment I had a flash in my mind.

So withought further ado here is the pics.

http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Grill%20web%20pics11-27-2005/DSC00899.JPG
The 10pack handles. See how they are araged? Reminds me of the old chevy grills from the 40's.

After some mocking up this is what I came up with.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Grill%20web%20pics11-27-2005/DSC00900.JPG
The bottom will be reworked and 4 nicer switches will be placed there.

Side view.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Grill%20web%20pics11-27-2005/DSC00901.JPG

I think it would look even better if I bondoed the side holes dont you think?

Then I realised that I have to cut the alu under the handles to make it fit the finish better and put mesh curved on the handles.

Anyway. Here is the bottom view.

Well tonite I did some work on the front switches. I am quite happy on how they turned out. I bought a cuple of thick undustrial washers from home depot and polished them with my dremel. They now look like chrome.

http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-30-2005/DSC00919.JPG

The switches are from allelectronics and were a very resonable. THey dont look like mutch but I like them very mutch.

Notice ontop the grill. Well part of it.
I am going to fill the side holes and posibly cut out under the handles to make it look better.
Here is a photochop of the side holes filled in.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-30-2005/DSC00924.JPG
Not very good photochop but it was 10seconds with the clone stamp.

Other acesories I bought. Including 4 soft rubber feet to isolate any vibration of the case. And a electric switch to enable and disable buttons. I am thinking about having it enable and disable both power and reset button via relay.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-30-2005/DSC00926.JPG

This is how she looks now with the shineh stuff on.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-30-2005/DSC00927.JPG

The best shot I could take of the switches and the polished up washers.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/11-30-2005/DSC00933.JPG

The washers were polished by mounting on a bolt and spun on my drill for a fiew minutes while running a sanding spunge on them to get rid of the dimples from the casting proces. And then I laped them with 1500grid wetsand paper. After that I used my dremel polishing tool and some compund (green crap dont know exactly what it is) to bring a chrome like shine. They look very good in real life too bad my camera skills are crap and my lighting sucks.

This is a carry on from another project again. Its a mod in progress that I will continue soon but thought I would share.

Duno really. I just walked past the plumbing department one day at home depot(read second home) and saw a variety of pvc parts. I liked what I saw and built it.

I am actualy thinking about producing copper res's for sale similar to that one. But this res will stay pvc.

Well I am update time.

These parts are the plastic pices under the front of the case. At first I wanted to paint them black and gloss em up. Then I decided to add a bit of shine with some aluminum tape.

This is my aoc fan I was using in my old setup. The fan aged and started making more noise. So I guted it and put in a TT silent fan in its place. The old blades in chrome didnt do it for me so I used the TT fan blades and since they were orange I painted the blades black and put a gloss coat ontop.

This is a pic of the rear of the fan with a plexiglass ring covering the housing that was painted black and clear coated.

Whats the point of a dust filter on an exhaust fan?

jaguarking11

Whats the point of a dust filter on an exhaust fan?

Its not a dust filter. Its just a simple grill. I just need to find a regular 80mm fangrill so that is probably temporary.

On another note I am thinking of puting dust filters on the front 92's. But this filter will be homebrew. I may even turn the rear fan around to push more air into the case to help with the top rads.

In any case the setup hasent been finished. When its finished I will tweak the settings.

EDIT: forgot to say. Sharp eye you have there.

I also put in a key witch will disable and enable the power button.

http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/3-9-2006/DSC01547.JPG

A shot of the case feet. I simply used the old feet and painted them and clear coated them and bolted a set of rubber feet under to dampen case vibrations.

very nice work... it'd be interesting to see the precise listing of the tools you used throughout the process...and also to see what kind of temps you get.. i would think that with minimal effort you could make a pretty good chiller setup just by covering the Copper piping with a layer of DICE/Acetone mix but there may not be enough cross area..

either way very professional looking.. Great Job

Well this is what it looks like.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/3-21-2006/DSC01555.JPG

The funny thing about this is that I also had a swiftech block with a larger alu lid that was anodised and that survived unharmed. I was also running so mutch aditive that my tubes were stained brown and this still happened. DD realy droped the ball. They will hear from me about this.

Luckily my buddy had a spare maze4 gpu block he could lend me that was undamaged untill I could get my block situation sorted out. Im thinking about geting a swiftech mcw60.

Enough of my yapping. Here is the plumbing.

And the flow sensor installed but not connected as of now.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/3-21-2006/DSC01559.JPG

On a side note, The loop is not geting afected by the flow sensor. AT this point I think its acting as a jet on the block or something.

More testing required.

Till next time.

Tools used for plumbing are very simple.

Propane torch.
1x pipe cutter
1x roll of solder (plumbing grade)
1x can of flux (again plumbing grade)
1x measuring tape
1x ruler.

I got tired of the pump noise. The main problem is that the pump resonates through the case. So I decided to cover it in foam. Went to home depot and bought some stuff. Here she is.

Filter mod.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/4-11-2006/DSC01576.JPG

The way I did this filter mod is actualy simple. Take a womans stocking, strech it over something flat and spray with clear coat in a dusty fashion. Let dry for 10-15min ensuring the clear is not completly dry and take off the flat surface. Cut to shape and use some glue to glue it on. This should be washable as well as do a very good job at keeping dust out. I used a zalman grill that I cut and filed to shape needed.

Here it is mounted.
http://home.earthlink.net/~brukla/images/VoyagerV2/4-11-2006/DSC01580.JPG

Mind you the smudge is a effect of light and dust.

Sorry for the thread hijack...I love the case!

The digidoc does controll fans. In fact it can controll 8 of them as well as measure their rpm and it has 8 temperature probes. It does all that stock. What I did was chop the digidoc to 3 1/4inch size and add some extensions to the endges so it fits in a dual 3/14inch slot.

I also painted and polished it.

how are the water temp sensors working?

jaguarking11
05-16-2006, 07:49 PM
how are the water temp sensors working?

Very well actualy. The temps are rite on the money. There is usualy .3c or so diference between after rad and tank. The tank monitor is ovbiously .3 degrees hotter because its the return line to the cpu and gpu. But those are idle temps. On load the the diference is close to 1degree.

I also have one sensor measuring air intake temps in the front atached to a heatsink witch shows idle water temps are 2-3degrees hotter than the air coming in.

When I install under block or heatspreder sensors I will have an idea of how efficient my loop is. But if water temps are any indication to cpu temps then usualy the cpu is higher by 3-4degrees than water in both load and idle acording to mobo sensor witch I think its pretty dam acurate.

Sorry I dont have pics.

Its very simple. The electronics are 3 1/4inch designed. Just cut and make a lil diy setup.

Sorry for the late repply.

jaguarking11
06-03-2006, 06:45 PM
Well I started with this old heatsink.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/1.JPG
After bending it back and fourth I managed to snap a fin off.

I then proceded to put the fin on the stove and let it heat up. For two reasons really. It makes removing the clear coating off it easy and the second reason is that it makes the copper more flexible and workable.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/3.JPG

After puting the very hot copper foil under water for a fiew seconds I then sanded the old crud off it.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/4.JPG

This is the second part of the block.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/6.JPG
Its actualy a copper cap for a 1inch tube.

I then took the copper sheet and put it over the copper cap but on the hollow end. The scope is to turn the sheet into a cap for the cap and seal the block. So some hammering took place.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/7.JPG

Now we need some way of fabricating something to fascen the block on. I bought a copper strap that is meant for a one inch tube.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/9.JPG

Some cutting.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/10.JPG
Notice the part left over ontop. Im not throwing that out just yet.

That part comes in handy so I can hamer a curve into the copper pice. I hamered a curve ontop of a 1inch black cast iron pipe.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/11.JPG

After adding a cuple of cupplers and some pipe I did the soldering. THis is it now.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/12.JPG

Ofcourse its very dirty from the smoke and the oxides created by the torch when soldering.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/Chipset%20Block/13.JPG

Next up is some sanding and polishing. You may also have noticed I did not put anything inside the block for turbulance. And that is simply because it wont need it. Chipsets produce very little heat and just water in the chamber design should take care of it. In fact the new acetal chipset block from swiftech is just a chamber design with no fins whatsoever.

Your thoughts?

May i suggest to make the rad shroud out of aluminum.. Just get a sheet from the hardware store and cut it out into a box shape and fold the edges over a striaght edge to make clean edges. Tape the corners with some aluminum tape. Pad the inside with some foam too take the edge off the fan noise. Just use long bolts to attach the fans and your golden.

i'm sorry if i might have sounded too harsh

the copper tubing makes for a clean look, so it is a choice, and as you say your flow rates are good; wtg

and in such a small case, it will be one hell of a job to get the rad inside (next to impossible i guess) but as it looks like your metal working skills are top notch, i'm sure you will find a way to make a nice shroud.

how's the pump noise after the rubber foam loving? i might have bought that pump, but lots are complaining about the noise it makes.

jaguarking11
06-15-2006, 08:24 PM
Honestly I dont like the noise. Even after all that foam it still resonates. It seems to be that these pumps need to be suspended and not hard mounted to be quiet.

Im hoping to switch to a dd pump (the new chepo unit) if its quiet or I may bite the bullet and buy a d5 and just rheo it down to where its silent.

good luck on that, after all this i'll just stick to my trusty old 1048, even my 1250 was too noisy for my liking.

you could try just letting the pump sit on the foam, instead of bolting it trough the foam. but heck, with all the copper tubing, you could suspend all you like on the pump, it'd still resonate through the tubing.

anyhow, watercooling doesn't seem to give those monster oc's anymore, so it'd better be quiet.

Well this board gave me a 45% oc on this chip. And its the board limiting me. WC does give you good oc but you gotta find the sweet spot.

Here's an idea for eliminating fan shroud noise, but it looks......akward heh.

I had been given one of those fake Tempupedic bed linings....not the actual bed, just like a 2" thick piece of the foam. And I never used it. So. Hacked it up, and used it in various places to test out how well it works with vibration reduction.

Works pretty well, and it's VERY moldable.

Here is a pic of lining AROUND the rad where it joins to the shroud surface.

Here is another pic, kinda hard to see, but I am trying the whole, "just let it sit on the foam", thing hehe. It works really well, and this foam is so soft, that it molds around the edges of the pump mount, help keeping it in place. NOTHING is holding this pump in place, and it has been to 2 LAN events, including a 2 hour car drive to a 500 person event. I been busy. :D

Just another bit of info, I believe you can get a pillow, o even this thing I have, from Wal-Mart or the linking, for around $30. A pillow will provide a TON of material for any rig project.

I apreciate your input. But my noise problems dont come from shroud noise or fans. Its the pump resonating on pipes. Thats all. Ill replace the pump with something different and call it a day.

Nice case you got there btw

Well I will be reciving a new rad this friday. I ordered a triple 120 rad and some yates on this machine.

So far the load temps are in the 42-43c range with my new craig davis pump @ 5v and all my fans on min.

The to do list includes sound insulation all around the case.
New chipset block (mcw-30)
The craig davis pump should be refitted so it looks nice and insulated for noise (although its totally silent now)
Paint the top of the case and polish it.

As of now with just the new pump, the case is nearly silent.

I was lucky enough to get sponsored a craig davis pump. SO I hope to post a emblem in this forum.

OK update time.

I have decided to replace my heater core with a triple 120mm swiftech radiator. It finally arrived.

Here she is
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/Rad2.jpg

Here is another shot to show the finish on this thing. The finish on it is awesome.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/Rad.jpg

The fans above are the icing on the cake. These are the quietest fans I have ever owned. I put 12v on 10 of these babies and they are still quieter than my psu fan. Thats 10fans making less noise than 1 on my stinken psu. They push about 47cfm acording to manufacturer.

Well the folks over at craig davis were kind enough to sponsor me a pump.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/craigdavis.jpg

This thing is awesome. Its quieter than my swiftech pump and it can run @ 5v providing 1.5L/min. @ 12v it puts out ~3L/m. The kicker is that this thing runs cooler than my previous swiftech making it more ideal to run it insulated for noise.

Here it is compared to my older swiftech unit.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/pumpdresed.jpg

And the pump compared to an undressed swiftech pump.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/pumpundresed.jpg

Original pump mounting. Where the new pump will go in.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/pumporiginal.jpg

Now I want to mount the triple rad down flush with the case. So I need more airflow. I built this front plate to go on top of the case. (I may paint the bezel of it black to match the case). I also put on a sponge on it to make sure dust stays out of the case.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/front%20bezel1.jpg

I added an air filter on the front as well. But something was missing. I decided to put a couple of red ccfls in the front to light up the sponge. It looks funky and weird.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/Front%20Dark.jpg

And the pic of my favorite new toy. I love the tube amp.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/front%20bezel.jpg

I am putting sound dampening all over the case as well. I bought some spire sound mats.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/Sounddampening2.jpg

And some thicker dampening material.
http://home.earthlink.net/%7Ebrukla/images/VoyagerV2/2-10-2007/Sounddampening.jpg

Thats it for this update. Sometime next week I am hoping to update again.

I tried talking about it in the watercooling section but all I got was flack, they seem to dislike this thing because of manufacturer spec. To each their own.

The pump is 3/4inch on both inlet and outlet. The motor on it is very tourquey as well. Its is a magnetic drive pump so no worries about seals.

It is rated to -40c or so, it would actually make a great chiller pump. So far I am very pleased with its performance. The whole thing screams quality. All in all compared to the 50z pump I had in there, this thing is way better balanced and a hell of allot more tourquey. After having it run @ 12v for a week with the front fans off in my case, the pump is still cool, and I suspect the heat dump is lower too as my temps have dropped 1-2c on average.

Oh and you know push pull only increases pressure, therefore reducing loss? I'd take off 3 of those fans! Its using more electricity (10W i know big deal) making more noise and probably not helping.

All the fans will be on a rheostat. They will be running 5-7V. The secret here is static pressure and low noise. FYI all 10 fans conected @ 12v make the same amount of noise as my supposedly silent coolmax psu.

I take it that the copper piping can also help cool the fluid as it passes through? 2

Yes it would help dissipate quite a bit!

Honestly I dont like the noise. Even after all that foam it still resonates. It seems to be that these pumps need to be suspended and not hard mounted to be quiet.

I just have a single question, how do you remove the components if this is all hard lined?

the pipes are made up of sections, I can remove sections to replace components and or service the unit.

So it is all not sweated together? Do you use something like flexible joints so you can remove sections when needed?

i dont mean to intude on your mod but heres a suggestion maybe adding some clear tubeing around the res area with a conection at the bottome allowing fluid to flow into the clear tudeing would make a great coolent level indicator also lets you know when your getting low if that even happen not much of a water person myself

I thought of that. I ended up not implementing it. Reson is simple, coolant levels do not drop in this loop and secondly it puts in an extra part that can fail over time and cause leaks. Thanks for the suggestion though.
