What order should I install everything? I'm installing DX9 even though I know there's a small performance drop over DX8 right now. So mobo drivers (nForce2), 9700 Drivers, DX9? Then do sound and everything? What other drivers am I forgetting?

Not sure about all that other stuff, but get your sound installed first. Sound cards have some issues sometimes with IRQ's and all that jazz. Get it up then go to the rest.

Hrm, well I plan on testing the onboard sound but I have an Audigy Gamer in the system as well. The sound drivers are part of motherboard drivers... Which should I do first?

Honestly, I would kill the onboard stuff if your going to use a card. There should be a setting or jumper on the board to disable the onboard sound.

I just want to test the onboard to see how it is. If it's good enough I may keep that and get rid of the card. I'm gonna get rid of one eventually... Just wanted to test the onboard.

I do Windows reinstalls about once every two months or so, and I tend to do them a certain way every time.

Reformat and install Windows.
Install network card drivers.
Download and install latest service pack from Windows Update (if you need to).
Install chipset drivers.
Install RAID drivers (if you have RAID on mobo).
Install sound card drivers.
Install video card drivers.
Install other card drivers.
After all drivers are installed, install DirectX.
Install all other Windows Updates.
Install tweakers.
Install applications and games.

That particular order seems to work the best for me.

I've been doing this order:

SP1 is included on my WinXP cd so it's installed with windows
Network Card Drivers
All Windows Updates
nForce2 drivers
DX9
ATI Cat 3 drivers
ATI Cat 3 Control Panel
Benching Apps

I defrag in-between every installation also.

I did:

WinXP (2600...)
NIC
Modem
DX9
Sound
4in1's
ATI Drivers ---- XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

My system locks with a black screen just before the welcome screen every time I install the vid card drivers.. 8-(
