FiringSquad: What are the strengths that ULi will bring to NVIDIA?
Drew Henry: The acquisition will significantly enhance NVIDIA's core logic/MCP design team and overall business. It will also significantly strengthen NVIDIA's sales, marketing, and customer engineering presence in Taiwan and China, critical business and engineering hubs for the PC industry. In addition, NVIDIA will acquire a suite of products and technology that are complementary to our current MCP business. NVIDIA will also be able to leverage ULi's world class team for the design of future NVIDIA products.

Im almost positive that this is a reaction to ATi's deal with Intel. Perhaps its going sour and nVidia is looking to get the contract themselves.

The reason they didnt get it the last time is becauase of their poor power-saving features for the creation of mobile boards (for Centrino) and that was a show stopper for them.

nVidia has had very poor power saving features for a long time now (like C19) and things that run this hot are impossible to use in a mobile platform. ULI has some of the best non intel mobile parts (better than VIA which im sure they considered as well). With a better mobile lineup they shuold be able to take the contract when it expires with ATi.

In addition since ULI makes the SBs of many of these chipsets they atleast get some of the action that ATi is getting.

They just had some good designs...nVidia wanted them along with the top of the line engineers...simple.

ULi happy, nVidia happy, deal? DEAL :)
