View Full Version : Do voltages mods eventually wear out the overclock-ability of the videocard?

lately I have seen my videocard take a huge dip in it's overclockable-ness, with a voltage of 1.77 on the core, I was reaching 440/345 easily.
now...
with the same voltages, I can only get 400/330.
I really can't figure out why either.
at first I thought it was the New 8RDA I have here, and although true, I can't benchmark as high with it as my old 8K3A+, I don't think it's the motherboard affecting the overclock of the videocard.
it's just a weird problem, and I can't seem to solve this.

Possible. Although I've had my Abit Ti4200 for almost a year now & it still seems to clock the same :)

would you have any idea what the problem could be?
all the wires are in place and properly connected, nothings lose or anything.... the voltages are righ, just my OC ability with this card are way down, and I have no idea why.
I switched the connection to the videocard so it's on it's own molex, with nothing else on the same line, that did nothing.
chilled it with cold water and a 172 watt pelt, that was reading 20F, that didn't help...
it shows the black fuzz at 400 when in the past it wasn't showing fuzz at all up to 465 (the memory never liked going high, which is why I typically benched at 440)

You know I have been having a problem overclocking my 9700 Pro since upgrading to an NF2-based board (asus a7n8x). This sounds sort of like your problem. Can't help but wonder if it's an NF2 problem.
My 9700 pro had been going 432/340 with ramsinks and a 172w peltier+h2o. It had run that way through a few different kt-333 mobo's. On this A7N8X my xp2700 is stable (prime95 looping overnight) at ~2750mhz. At that speed I can't overclock my 9700 at all (or not much anyways, I didn't spend a lot of time on it). I have to drop my cpu all the way down to 2540 (14*181) to be able to run 3DMark at 418/340. If I increase the fsb at all I need to drop the core/mem speeds on the 9700.
I am still trying to figure all of this out but it just takes a lot of time, I'm still not sure if the problem is related to overall cpu mhz or just fsb, in any event this a7n8x is a total POS...
