Another rushed chip!?

however rushed it can't be any worse than the Pentium D.

Precisely, at worst, it'll be as good as the yet to be released presler...with the absence of netburst bringing perf to A64 levels.

if it is a rushed product.. so help me god..

dont think its rushed guys, they are already so happy about yields and speeds and performence that they wanna push it out asap.

what surprises me though, is that pressler is, from what ive seen so far, really promising, and it can keep up with amds x2s...
so it would only make sense to push conroe out, wich effectively reduces presslers life time to only 6 months!!!! if conroe is performing better than pressler or just as good at lower watts.

this is a good sign, has nothing to do with rushed if you ask me :)

even though Im not really a big fan of Intel, I welcome the conroe. Possibly Intel will finally have a viable competetior to A64.

Yes, it might keep up in performance (but it won't overtake the top X2), but at what costs? Sure the initial purchase of hardware will be on the same level, but that's when the hurting starts.

It will use so much power to keep up with AMD you won't have to worry about heating your house. But you will have to keep a fire extinguisher next to your kwh meter since it will be spinning at speeds never before thought possible.

No... I'll just wait for Conroe and be happy with Yonah in the meantime :p

Intel will be on top when Conroe hits, performance will be very good at power levels back in the safe range.

Presler will got assr***d when Conroe is avaible.

Conroe starts with a frequency around 3,0 GHz like the actual Pentium D processors but:

- 14 instead of 31 stages pipeline
- 4-issue Out-of-Order instead of 3-issue
- FSB1066 or maybe FSB1333
- 4 MB shared L2 Cache
- Direct L1 to L1 Link
- higher L2 bandwidth
- deeper buffers
- improved branch prediction
- TDP about 65 watts
- new Chipset
- ...

afaik pressler consumes less power and produces less heat than the pentium d.
but then again, the 840XE produces up to 140W under full load, so less power than the pentium d is still a lot :D

Where'd you hear it starts at 3 ghz? I'm hearing more like 2.5...

This is nice!

-4 MB shared L2 Cache

this is sexy :p:

This chip is gonna be smoking when someone at XS takes it up to 6 gigs!!

Cant wait:slapass:  :toast:

Cache size means nothing to gamers.. only to servers...
I want lower Cache latency..not more Cache...

Intel has a 2,93 GHz Woodcrest (Xeon DP same archicture as Conroe) on the roadmaps for the embedded program.

Normally desktop versions are slightly higher clocked than its workstation brothers.

So 2x3,0+ GHz at launch is what to expect and maybe necessary to compete with AMD K8 @ Socket AM2, 2x2,6 GHz and DDR2-800 on-die memory controller.
