View Full Version : cable management?

I did some searching and didn't find a topic for this, I hope I'm posting this in the correct forum.

My case (Antec P160) is in need of some cable management. I've sifted through the water-cooled case gallery and some of those cases seem like they don't even have a PSU hooked up, they're so clean.

Are there any good guides out there for hiding cables effectively? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

edit: my PSU is an OCZ Powerstream 600w, if that makes a difference.

Just run the cables behind the mobo tray. That usually makes it look pretty good and keeps the area above the mobo free for air to move about.

I ran a bunch of cables behind the mobo tray, and I also made some cables with 90deg connectors, and then tucked the rest behind or between the drives. Also, sleeving the cables helps a bunch.

Both the above guys are speaking the truth.

If you can run most of your cabling under the motherboard tray, you will certainly keep the cable monster at bay.

Dont forget that you can secure cables using zip ties to your drive trays and what not.

Hello,
I am posting a few shots of a project I am currently busy with, maybe it would give you some ideas. If the pics are not apprpriate, a Mod can remove the linkies ;)

If you want, I can post a link to my homeforum where I have a project log for this. Let me know.

Here are 2 shots, showing the process from the very beginning, both mobo and rear side - ugh, what a mess, don't you think? Check all those cables.

After a little effort - not complete yet, although machine is running, there is a lot to do.

What is that thing mounted below the rear exhaust fan hole?

It's the Vapo's ChillControl Panel.

Did you cut those holes into the case? That is a very good idea for cable management. Mind if I borrow that idea?

Yes, just a little Dremel action ;) You are most welcome to use the idea, np! At least it helps in getting the mess away from the motherboard area...hehe

Alright, thanks. What is the material you used around the hole? BTW, nice rig. What are some of the specs?

You can visit linkie for all the info on the mod. Things like nice 240x128 blue lcd in the front, carbon-fiber, etc ;)

My Project Supercool Homepage (http://www.systemshock.co.za/forums/index.php?showtopic=1939)

The material around the psu-cable hole is well, the same stuff you find on the Lian-li's, to protect you from sharp edges etc. Will find a name for it if you want, we have a place here in Durban(South Africa) that sells it. Maybe google for "Edging strips" or something similar.

Specs: Well, FX55 running at 3gig, 200x15, VapoLS cooled.
2x BFG 7800GTX OC's, will be fitting 2x Maze4 Acetal blocks to them this week, some FrozenCPU monster Ramsinks.
Asus A8N32-SLipDelux motherboard.
2x WD Raptor 74gig's in Raid0 - Asetek watercooled
1Gig OCZ TCCD Rev2
Enermax 600W PSU
BlackIcePro rad for GFX, Raptors
108mbs Wireless Lan card (Gigabyte)

My other rig, for my wife's gaming pleasure, and Internet Gateway, is a Abit AN8 Fatality, 4800+, 1gig Mushkin TCC5, 2x WD Raptors Raid0, 1x asus N7800GTX, 530W Aopen (Fortron), Asetek Antarctica waterblock, Maze4 Acetal, Innovatek 12V HTTP pump, BIX Rad.

Keeps me buzy ;)

For the original poster: Here is 2 shots of another VapoLS mod I did, this was the gen1 240W VapoLS, on an older Abit Max3 mobo, 3.2gig Northwood at 4.43gig, Maxtor 40Gig Slimlines, 9800XT clocked to hell and back, this setup gave me 26526 3dMark01 about 2 years back, one of only 3 Intel systems, with Macci and Fugger's I think to hit over 26k in 3dM01 at that point in time. Later I dumped the Northie, put in a 3.4EE, and managed around 15780k 3dmark03 with the 9800XT, which was also quite impressive :)

Note the very clean, but impractical wiring, and watercooling tubing.

This was where the harddrives were located, yes, I still have them, they were real nice those Slimline 40gig Maxtors ;)

Wow, thats a really good idea of where to put the hard drives. Is that where it is supposed to go?? That looks like some rig. Very nice cut out for the rad. I like the vapochill control board placement. I cant wait for this rig to be finished. Just skimmed through the 7pgs.

Shot, no problem, thanx for your replies. Appreciated. The last 2 pics were actually my previous setup, same Lian-Li, although black, and harddrives were not meant to fit there, but, because they were the Slimline (very thin) Maxtor series, it worked out well, I had about 4mm clearance between drives and side-panel.

You are welcome to check out my thread whenever you'd like to, things will progress quite fast from here-on.

Take care.
