I own Abit AN8 SLI.....

It could be a good board....

I tried :

2x512 Corsair PC 3200 XL CAS 2
2x512 Corsair PC 4400 C25 CAS 2.5
4x256 GSkill PC 4800 (one bank) CAS 2/2.5

1T parameter won't work...well
Also, use DDR 333 parameter or higher (avoid DDR 400....but i use it)
you'll get strange results......like reboots or freezes...after a "normal use"

So 2T parameter...will work but unstable after 3 hours BF2 play.
Won't still boot properly, have to put "reset"...and magic!!

i precise my rig is watercooled
(CPU+chipset+GPU)...so it's not heating problem.....

it's a shame....i was able to reach more than 330 HTT.....damned....

So, it's a good-bad product...

Try another PSU. Also, check if the Rubycon capacitor near the BIOS chip is not bulging or leaking.

Newbie_User

then again...i received support and advices from other forums members so it's not a "new" problem :)

i have 450W NoName PSU...(in use)
I also have 380W Tagan PSU...

Will one of them do?

Otherwise, i'll guess i'll have to buy one of the new low consumption PSU :

Seasonic S12 90-150€
Antec Phantom 500 175€
Antec Neo HE 95-145€

Which one and how much "power"? (380/400/450/500/550/600)

i'm not planning to change my rig.

Had luck with old asus P4P800 board and Northwood and prescott CPU's...:)

Now...i have an A64 Core venice that won't handle more than 2750-2800 24/24 stable....
so i guess i won't make that rig evolve caus' this crappy memory problem..

If resolved, i would go X2...He He.......

anyway....you seem pretty confident with what you' re talking about..
What's your job, man?

best luck and happy new year :)

P.S : you named rubycon capacitor...? What's that? info is near the BIOS though...;)

this board hates all my ram too.

Gskill LE pc4400, 2x512mb
Crucial Ballistix pc3200, 2x512mb
Mushkin Redlines pc3200, 2x512mb
OCZ GX3500, 2x512mb

im 100% memtest stable, 24 hours P95 Stable, and 32m Pi stable and i still get random lockups.

im using a Fortron Bluestorm 500w psu. i have no idea what the issue is.

im baffled!

Seems like the board would like Super Talent memory...

Here is the link :

But no import to Europe :(

http://www.supertalent.com/SuperTalentMemory/products/product_detail.php?PN=X32PB1GC

So, here is how we are :

Can't Abit engineers create a decent BIOS to fix this little problem??

I think my hdd's didn't handle to well to be pushed so far....
i've have fragmented files....that cannot be defragmented.

i hope the real clock isn't damaged by the memory unstability.....then all files would be corrupted lightly......:(

Of course, i was testing the overclocking..but still.
Same problem than you....
tested the rig with usual test programs...nothing to signal....passed.

i did run PC Mark 05 @ 2750 (some) and passed.....
Also SuperPi and Prime test (hotCPU tester Pro)

Tried the Ultimate Boot CD even...ran tests and nothing.

Although, Memetest gave me errors @ not extrem mem speeds (even some time @ DDR 400 with 2 Gb and 1T....Go figure.

Usually...upping the Volts would resolve this, but i use Corsair C25 (Samsung TCCD chips i think...that won't need more than 2.9V...So :)

We will find the anwser to this problem.......trust the community.

and prey for abit good will.....for a happy new year :)

Try setting all the timings options manually (not by SPD or AUTO). And try loose timings first. . .

Also, the VTT memory voltage has to be @ VDIMM/2 (half of VDIMM voltage).

(damned....that Kil Bill movie is great :)

So i 'm running CAS 2.5/4/4/8 on Corsair PC 4800 C25 2x512 two banks memory sticks + radiators (??)

Other settings i did lower, especially the 1T/2T settings.

So i wil detail :

DRAM Clock :
CAS Latency Time :2.5 (2/2.5/3)
Row Cycle Time : 8 (5 to ??)
Row Refresh Cycle Time :
RAS# to CAS# Delay :4
RAS# to RAS# Delay :
Min. RAS# Active Time :
RAS# Precharge Time :4
Write Recovery Time :
Write to Read Delay :
DRAM Command Rate : (1T/2T)
Burst Length :
Bank Interleaving :4 beats

32 bit Dram Memory Hole :Auto
MTRR mapping mode : continuous

Here is what i do :

i go to advanced Chipset features and to DRAM configuration.

then i set the DRAM Timing Selectable from auot to by SPD.

There i get numbers, so i go further to manual, i keep the SPD settings and try to keep up with them.

Also, there is a known issue with memory 1T setting and Venice CPU's....
So mine is one Venice...

To andlcs : your CAS latency is set to 3.0, is that the solution?

don't you get errors in your rig after a few hours game test..or while overclocking?

i precise that i overclock my rig up to 250-275 HTT (set to 3X and 2T memory parameter)

it will hold @ 250 HTT and CN'Q activated is BIOS but Windows driver disabled.
It will go to 275 HTT but system seems a bit unstable.
Each time i reboot, i get wrong parameters from the overclocking utility.
(not @ 250 HTT :)

you all using BIOS19? I found it to be far superior to any other bios i tested, also mushkin high performance pc4400 was the only ram i found t work as it should and be fairly easy to get hold of.

Newbie_User
01-04-2006, 11:47 PM
To Ket : yes i'm using Bios 1.9
But still those problems...

I'm going further....
testing both Corsair PC4400 and PC 3200 on Quad channel (2x2x512)
(Boh are TCCD chips but with different revs.)

it's working.....but not to much...
i can run up to 268 HTT with DDR 333 (around 220 memory :)
Then again, @ 244 HTT and 199 Mhz RAM @ 2.5/3/3/8, it's working fine on NFS Most Wanted, maxxed out...

But BF2 will make the rig to shutdown after 15-20 min gaming :(

i use Catalyst 5.13 and X800 GTO²...

also, i replaced NoName PSU with Tagan 380W and it's silent again :)

This test has no meaning, it's a dummy test but still......the memory controller works not so bad??

Furthermore, 1T parameter will work with 2Gb @ DDR 200. (1475 Mb per seconds yet !)

But the rig is unstable at the most.

I don't know why the BIOS won't store false data that was previously stored into the CMOS.

Must be some kind of Dual-BIOS thing....damned it's no that good at all.

This morning i was able to play BF2 for almost 40 minutes (temps went from 32° to 42° then shutdown) @ 244 HTT and DDR333.

i've also tried the SPD and for 2 Gb, it will give me : 2T DDR 333 2.5/4/6/7 :( (DDR 333 is normal for 4x512 but i thought they revised this to DDR 400 lately)

I tried low Latencies (2/3/3/6) and ti went down when trying 265 HTT (under Windows...)

So, i can't accept to run this rig @ defaut settings.
Maybe, i'm a bit of a paranoid overclocker.....in deed

:)

I can vouch for the super talent memory. Only memory that will do rated timings and even a little tighter and higher clock in this board so far.

Looks like they reccomend these for seperate sticks
http://www.supertalent.com/SuperTalentMemory/products/product_detail.php?PN=D32PB12C2

and lol here's a dual channel kit only supporting abit an8 series? WTF did abit do..............
http://www.supertalent.com/SuperTalentMemory/products/product_detail.php?PN=X32PB1GC2

those are both cas 2 mems btw versus the cas 3 you posted.

and this is the set that im using that works well.http://www.supertalent.com/SuperTalentMemory/products/product_detail.php?PN=D32PB12C25

i'm bored.....

returned to 1 Gb kit CAS 2

Corsair XL sticks certified @ 2/3/3/6 @ 2.75 V

Won't run @ those latencies but with 2.5/4/4/8 and other parameters highered, it'll go....with 1T parameter

Currently running @ 244 HTT with DDR 333.....seems to work...

Enough for Surfing and Games.....

i'm bored with this .... Board......

To chew*: i saw your thread in AMD section.
Unfortuantely, my board won't do....as you say.

However, i can go as high as 3.4v on my AN8 SLI...bug??

bios 15 allowed 3.5 vdimm but if you have a duakl core cpu it will not support it. after bios 15 they changed it to 3.4 volts not that it mattered cuz it didnt run 2x512mb UTT or bh-5 chips to well.

Al least....am opportunity ;)

A friend gonna give me an Opty 165 for testing....will post soon...

Question...

Would i use :

2xCorsair PC4400 C25 512 DDR 550 TCCD
4xGSkill PC4800 256 DDR 600 (chip unknown...:(

it's no more a Venice Core, so will the 1T parameter @ high HTT (hopping both for 275-280 sync or 305-308 async @ DDR333)

Have in mind the CAS mentioned for TCCD chips....will test soon

Your advice?

2XGB kits are too expensive for now....will wait until good DDR 550 will be sorted out :)

For max OC use just 2x 256. For possible 1 T operation with a total of 1 gig use the 2x 512mb combination. I could never get the TCCD stable 24/7 in the abit due to lack of certain memory options such as weak drive strength. I did get it 24 hour prime stable but then the next day I would fail prime in 10 mins. Very shifty stability. One day stable next day not. My final fix was once i found a stable setting 24/prime i didnt shut pc down. If i rebooted it would fail but leaving it on once i was stable it would pass prime all damn week.

2.5-3-4-8 will be the timings you want to use.

Thanks Chew*

So i will use 275 HTT for everyday use, that wil give me 2475 Mhz...and i'll try to outperform an FX-55 @ SuperPI 1M....so based on 2600-2700 Mhz.

I expect 1T parameter for encoding purpose more than for games ;)
So 2T parameters @ high HTT won't be of a problem for games.

2475 Mhz 24/24 would be awesome...divide by two my encoding times....from 2h30 to 1h15....Real-Time encoding....Oups....Twice the time real time encoding :)

Have you given a try to your X2 into your Abit board....??
Does it run properly?

I encountered the same "hasardous" stability....on my board....
Too bad.......almost gave me a wide headache...

Wil tell you next week (this week-end with hope :)

Yop....

Weither your board is running without "our" little problem, weither your BIOS revision is the good one.

Which chips do you have on your memory sticks?
280 Mhz is pretty good.

Have you tried other memory sticks??
and the BIOS 1.9 rev. ?

advice, don"t flash your BIOS and keep your luck....

i'll be carrying on for less magnetic force on my rig....

It's good to hear about a Venice and 1T parameter working rig.....

You are the exception........(Jesus is alive....... )

Please tell us infos so that we can run hard conclusions about your settings and parammeters.....

MAybe you did find the answer to our question.......

Wait and see :)

Corsair Pc3200C2 pro works fine at 1T.

Um have you any clue how many revisions there are and diff mem chip types that corsair used with pc 3200 c2 pros? I have a pair of the xms c2 pro's im using right now....... they used infineon, tccd, tccx.

Newbie_User
01-13-2006, 01:16 AM
It seems my Corsair XMS 3200 (TwinX) 2x512 C2 rev. 1.5 are UTT chips....

But i don't konw the ... about those chips....

I hope they are not the ones to put 3.5 V on them....caus' have only 3.4 V :D

Anyway...results coming soon.

Received Opty

Does 2475 @ 1.350 V 275 HTT (set to 1.375 now) :)

Have run SuperPi @ 280 : 33.103
3DMark03 : 6522

Tried 3DMark05 : failed after test 1 (shutdown)
Tried DivX (XviD, MP3, 2 pass in 700 Mo) : 1x35 + 7 min audio (1 Core) + 1x35 shutdown while 7 min left :(

Temp was 36°C-39°C load and down to 28°C idle with CN'Q.

So it's an awesome cpu....:toast:

enough for me as long as memory holds on with the CPU.....Abit board issue....

W-K is coming......;)

Update :
tests were run wtih Corsair PC4400 TCCD chips...2x512 2.5/4/4/8 1T
Aïda32 will tell 4891 for memory (reading :( and 2205 for memory writing :)

System is unstable though.....
Maybe i should reinstall...??
Shortcuts have gone mad and disk access is weird......??

will test some more

Have run Memtest 1.55+ 1 pass ;)

Still searching for memory bug...and found it....

This baby runs 2700 Mhz @ 1.525 V....Nice
Have run SuperPi in 31.375 sec.
And PCMARK05 = 5888 ;)

I'm running Corsair PC4400 C25 TCCD chips @ DDR 333 so 245 Mhz....

But the rig is stable......

Have tried 4x256 PC 4800 GSKILL 2T.....crap.....
Won't even run @ 240 stable......not to mention 275....those mem sticks are certified @ 300 Mhz....
even 2/2/2/5 with 2.80 V won't run......@ 1800 Mhz and DDR400

Any ideas??

chew*
01-17-2006, 12:48 PM
yes it's abits lack of offering alpha memory timings. Such as dram drive strength, Dqs drive strength, ddr memory drive strength those among other settings are holding the hardware back. Try 3-4-4-8 at or even 3-8-8-10 and i bet it does fine :)

Newbie_User
01-17-2006, 11:18 PM
I'll try at CAS 3.

My 4x256 Gskill chips are Samsung TCCD.
I'll check the rev. to the Samsung Web site.
There must be many rev. of Samsung TCCD...i'll check..

i also think that my Opty mem controller is crappy...:(

How much voltage should i apply??
I'll apply your mem settings for TCCD.

Thanks

I'm having bruatl shutdowns with Far Cry and BF2 SF @ 2475 (275 sync)
Catalyst 5.13 (Dual-Core optimised...)
Other games run fine
Max temp (1.5 Vcore) = 46-47°C

Any idea?
