View Full Version : Loop optimisation?

Ok, so i've set up my first WC loop, but i'm not entirely satisfied with my temperature increase.

My X2 3800 was doing 2.55ghz stable on stock heatsink, stock voltage (stress prime and game stable)

With my h2o-APEX kit, it struggles to do 2.8 stable, with 1.65volts. I would expect a bigger performance increase than that going from stock AMD heatsink to above average water.

That said, what things can be done to optimise a loop. Anything to squeeze that extra little bit of performance.

So far things I’ve got down to do:

Lap my storm block
Remove the HIS
Remount the block (I hear storm blocks are tough to get a good mount on?)

Is there anything I’m missing? Any mounting tips for the storm for example?

Also, as a side question, I lost the cap on my res. The top is currently blocked by a similar sized plastic disc, but it doesn’t screw in (found it on the floor somewhere). Will this have an impact? I’ll just purchase a new res if that’s the case, or make one.

From a chip that did nearly 2.6 on stock/stock, I was really hoping for 3ghz stable I guess, so any tips anyone has would be appreciated. I’m scouring the forum as well, but theres a lot of info out there, and its hard to sort through it all.

Thanks.
