Given that nVidia specify certain 12v rail requirements, I would think it's a safe bet that the pcie connector for your card is run directly from the 12v rail?

If a friend of mine has an Antec TPII 480W with dual 18A 12v rails, and the 7800GT is said to require 26A on the 12v rail is it also safe to assume he can run his card from this psu, as his combined 12v rail rating is 36A?

Or, is this psu inadequate?

Or, can he perform some kind of mod to combine his rails?
Maybe a connector which combines both pcie connectors into 1?

He's a cheapass and doesn't want to blow any more cash :slapass:

Solder some very low gauge wire between the two 12V outputs on the powersupply PCB.

Just look at the wires, it's 12V.

Yellow = 12V
Red = 5V
Black = Ground

After that, all I can remember is the green wire in the main 20/24 pin ATX connector is the power on signal wire....connecting that to a ground wire turns the power supply on.

How many watts will a 7800GT consume?

Damn, I actually meant how many amps would be needed to run the 7800GT on load?

But thanks for the reply Craig :)

No more than 13 amps.
