What do I need to extract BIOS chips from motherboards. I'm talking about the newer style BIOS chips, the square types, not the long, rectangular type. Also, is the procedure for flashing bad BIOSes the same with the newer type of chips the same as with the older? (ie: Boot up w/ good, replace w/ bad, flash).

Also, where would I purchase this tool to extract BIOSes?

you'll need a PLCC extractor. last time i was at my local frys, they had them.

and you've got the proceedure correct.

Blah, just use a toothpick, a strong one.
I did a lot of hot-flashing and no problems yet. Use WinFlash, it will flash anything in that BIOS ;)

Take care, be gentle or the mobo might shut down if you short two contacts in the BIOS socket.
