Just wondering, seeing as this sort of information is scattered around the forum in other peoples threads, what are people currently using as their add in card controller of choice?

You could say that... i always wondered why the SiL cards sold so cheaply, then I found out why :) Let's skip the gory details of HD's losing data even though they were Mirrored....

I also like the unified driver in the Promise, one driver basically does all their cards.

which is nice..
and right now it is fine, but I hear the new adaptec PCI-E cards are really good...

A tad pricey for my application unfortunatly, basically I just need to get SATA onto the board cus the onboard controller craps out once the FSB is raised, no PCI locks unfortunately.....

I suggest a DFI or MSI, they both lock the PCI clocks

I'd avoid Silicon Image's like a plague.

I could be wrong here but this is what I gather...
An addon card won't help either. If you don't have a lock your PCI speeds will increase also. Besides most onboard SATA controllers run on the PCI clock. So you basically throwing your money away and back to square one.

I got a Raidcore (Broadcom) 8 ports SATA controller in my Xeon rig.
Pricey card, but good, solid performance. Have been using it for 1 1/2 years now, no problems whatsoever.
