I want to get a new HSF, I want one that will give me good temps (I'm at about 50 degrees celsius with a 2200+ at stock at the mo, I want to go lower) but won't sound like a jet engine taking off. My current cooler, a GlobalWin FSP82, is very annoying, as it produces the temperatures above and is quiet noisy at the same time :| I'm also upgrading to a 2400+ soon for overclocking purposes,so I want a much better cooler.

So, any ideas on decent HSFs? I was thinking about a Zalman cooler, as some of them can cool 2700's whilst in silent mode :)

The Zalman's can cool a 2700+ in silent mode, but you'll likely get worse temperatures than you have now. If you want relative silence + performance, I would say either SLK-800, Alpha PAL8045 or Swiftech MCX462+ with a quiet 80mm fan.

Yeah, go for the SLk-800 and get an 80mm fan, buy your self a Zalamn FanMate nd plug it all in. Then for general useage you can lower the RPm and when ur o/cing, just wack the speed up.

I'd acutally recomend an 80mm Delta and plug it all in, they can actually be very effiecient at around the 3,000rpm, at which they are barely audiable!!

i believe the best preforming heatsink out there is the SLK800. and instead of buying that Zalman fanmate thing, you could probably just do a 7V mod using the 5v and 12v rail on your molex connector.

I would have suggested doing the 7v,but after buying a FanMate myself they are acutally very good. Only becuase that with a 7v mod u either have 7 or 12v, but with this i can get anything between 2v and 12v.

Just my 2 cents.

Wow, thanks for all the replies, I'll rack a price up and see if I can afford it ;)

Get a swiftech mcx-4000 and put whatever fan u want on it. In my opinion it is by far the best. it will run u about 40-45 dollars.

the mcx4000 is for Intel chips, i believe Bottled is looking for an AMD solution.

gobbo, i've never used a FanMate. maybe i should look into one, my ears are starting to ring. i could just build myself a pulse width modulation circuit and save myself some money too.

Yep your right it is for the p4. I guess i would go with the the swiftech mcx-462+ then, it has mounts for both amd and intel and the only difference between the 2 are the amount of pins in the heatsink.

Yep, I was after an AMD cooler, but i think I'll wait till I've part exchanged my CPU at the end of the week, just to check my temps.
