I just got my 4400+ and as soon as i turned my comp on and it started launching Windows XP it rebooted, when i turn on 'do not reboot at error' i get a blue screen with an unidentified error.

Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

Try removing the CMOS battery from the motherboard for one minute, then replace it and try again.

Well it boots in safe mode but still doesn't like normal boot
Anyone else got any ideas?

Hmm, didn't work either. Can it be that my bios is corrupt? (MSI K8N Neo2 Plat.)
Haven't tried to put a processor in the mobo since my 3700+ Sandy, i remmember i flashed a modded bios just before i sold the sandy to a friend.
Now when i try flashing to an official bios it tells me 'Source file not found!'.
Is it me doing something wrong or is something wrong with the mobo?

reload your bios in safe mode if possible from windows

Msi's live update flash util doesn't work in safe mode and Awdflasher doesn't support winnt/win2k/winxp (and doesn't do what it's supposed to from dos) :(
Any other way to flash it?

You need to make a Win98 boot disc, than flash from there. More than likely your HAL was activated.

Gives me a 'Source file not found' on win98 boot disk :( what kind of error is that? I don't even get what it means... By the way, what's HAL?
EDIT: Now when i try usin win98 boot disk it gives me the command line but the only drive available is drive a: (c:, d:, g:, j:, k: and l: are marked as disk name incorrect). Is there a way of making flash disk into a win98 boot disk or not using the boot disk at all?

You dont need access to any other drives. Besides, you cant, Win98 or DOS cant see NTFS partitions. You need awdflash off DFI's site along with the BIOS youre going to flash. Place those on the same 98 boot disc and youre golden.

Damn, forgot about NTFS not readable under dos, worked at first though. Problem is i don't have a Floppy disk drive hooked up to my comp, guess i'll have to find it again...

Thank you for the help flashing, usually works without help but this time it didn't want to work. Flashed back to an official bios. Now the problem is that it didn't fix the original problem, windows still doesn't boot and i seriously don't know what the problem is :( anyone know what else it could be?

Well, boot into safe mode. More than likely, youre missing the driver for the X2 and you probably didnt install it before hand before upgrading CPU's.... OR, bust out your XP CD and boot off it, doing a recovery/reload of the OS.

Never knew CPUs had drivers? I've already tried recovering, reinstalling, installing other languages of windows, nothin :( , guess ill try again, could it be that my mb is half-fried or something?

no man, if you can boot into safe mode (windows without most drivers and apps) your mainboard is fine. its some driver issue probably. could possibly be a peripheral, ie vid card, wifi card, sound card, etc. take extra cards (except vid, of course) out and try booting. try using one of the programs that clean out your vid drivers. make sure there is no wacky jive in your Startup (check msconfig). if all else fails, clean install.
good luck

very truly yours,

Yes, CPUs have drivers. Remember, youre using a dual core now.. Its needs to know this.

Razor I have a x2 4400 running on my neo 2 and it runs awsome. You will need bios 1.9 or later read this thread and you will find everything you need to know also DO NOT use msi live update if you want to ,use winflash but make sure you do it right or you will ruin your board.

neo 2 thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43033&page=117&pp=25 :toast:

Force HAL= press f5 during install of windows Scroll down and select acpi multiprocessor to make both cores work in windows. Use either bios 1.9 , 1.b, or 1.c beta DO not use 1.a.
