my father has around $800 to spend (including shipping) on a new system, and im just checking opinions from others

here is what i need

Motherboard
CPU/cooler
RAM
Video Card
PSU
Case

My current choices

Mobo - MSI kt4 (one of the varients)
CPU - 2000+ Stock heatsink/fan
RAM - DDR pc2700 (brand undecided)
VC - Geforce 4 TI4400
PSU - Enermax 365
Case - Chieftec black server

what would be your choices?

and remember it wont be overclocked or anything, i just need to get a fast stable system for moderate gaming for the price above hopefully it will stay under 720-30 so there is some play room for small changes

Just one suggestion off the top, the tbred 1800's are performing just as well as the 2000's at a cheaper price. Even if you don't want to o/c, a slightly higher fsb than spec would make it more responsive.

That configuration should work well and stable for your dad. what I meant by Slight fsb adjustment was the xp1800 is designed to run at 133fsb. So if you raise it one or two increments to somewhere around 140, then all the components tied into the mobo will run slightly faster than spec. By raising your fsb from 133 to 140, in effect you're raising the communication megahertz of the agp, pci, ram, etc... The agp is designed to run at 66mhz, by raising your fsb to 140 you're raising your agp to somewheres around 67 - 68mhz. And your pci is designed to run at 33 mhz, but after the fsb adjustment it would be running at around 34 - 35 which would cause it to be more responsive. A increase of your fsb to like 140 is a small increase that the rest of the components shouldn't have any problems with running at.

would there be any heat problems with a low increase like that? or and how bout motherboard problems, will it work straight out of the box? or do i need to mod anything?

thanks

for 812 newegg i was gonna get the folowing but the person backed out.

Epox 8rda+ mobo NF2
Asus gf4 mx400
geil 2x256mb pc3200 c2 (enables dual channel for nForce)
AMD 2400+
antec case with 400w power
thermalright slk-800 heatsink and a quiet 80mm panaflo

I think that covers it. Its all top of the line besides the gf4 but it depends what the application is. Mine was supposed to be office use. Oh onboard sound and nic are great on that board so no need for additional cards.
