ok, i don't know why but this is my favorite part of my computer to bench. maybe i'm just crazy.

i use atto and hdtach.

to get atto go here:

http://www.attotech.com/software/index.html

and then click on the "Applications/Tools/Utilities", enter your info(i used my hotmail account), and download the "ATTO ExpressPCI HostAdapter Utilities".

hdtach can be found here(it's much easier to get):

http://www.tcdlabs.com/hdtach.htm

unfortunatly it can't be used with an NT based os without regestering it(i actually paid for it, and use it enough to justify the cost).

anyway, i've noticed quite a few people use sandra, and sandra doesn't do a very good job with hard drives. these are 2 alternatives.

when you benchmark with Atto, make sure to set the "Total Length" option to 32MB, all the other options can stay the same.

is supposed to be the most reliable along with the registered HDTach (I am too cheap to pay for it and all my systems run NTFS!).

ATTO gets used a lot, but does not reallt represent real workld performance. Check the StorageReview forum for further info.
