New design with 7 fans (http://www.thermaltake.com/products/Xaser3Menu.htm)

Very nice cases, but what I do not like is that there's no grill for the front intake fans, or for any intake fans for that matter.

BTW, check this out : www.casetek.com.tw
That are the original manufacturers of the cases, Thermaltake just paints and mods them.

They remind me of the Chieftec cases...

Yes, but they are much longer, now you can remove the HDD bay w/o having to remove long vid cards such as the Ti4600 ;)

no point in em being muchlonger if there are no intake grill for fans

That's what they are. Pre-modded Chieftecs - a butt-ugly abomination to pre-modded cases everywhere. :p

No, that's what they ARE NOT.
Casetek cases are very different than Chieftec cases, I have both and I like the Casetek a lot more.

CCW, yeah, the lack of intake grills is a con, but then again what are modding tolls for ;)

My point is thoug: why did they put 80mm fan holders in the front of the case when there is no grill for the air to be sucked in or blown out from? its stupid design on ThermalTakes part, the Chieftec and Antecs all come with the grills + when you pay that much for a case you'd expect some intake grills to be cut in.

Thanks,
Craig

Yeah, it's a stupid design flaw on Casetek's part. The grill wouldn't do much good either, because the HDD cage blocks the air flow somewhat, even though it has big holes in it.

But the temps inside my Casetek CK-1019(aluminum) are very good, w/o any fans at all. Strage, I wonder what will happen if I add fans.

well because its aluminium the whole case acts as a large heatsink! could you try adding a few fans and post your results just out of interest please?

Thanks,
Craig

Well, I'm back with the results. All temps were measured with Hardcno probe, which is not quite accurate. Fans used are all TT orange case fans from Xaser II cases.
Room temp : ~24C(1C more or less)
Case temp no fans : 29-30C(lotsa stuff inside, none of which is cooled very well ;))
Case temp 1 front fan and one back exhaust fan : 28C
Case temp 2 front fans 2 back exhaust fans : 26C
Case temp all fans on(side and top) : 25C
Case temp all fans except front fans : 28C

Too bad I have nothing accurate to measure air temps :(

Cheers, they are pretty good results:), we can now get these cases at work so i will see if the boss can order one for me to have a look at :D

The intake for the front fans is actually on the bottom of the case. There is a small rectangular hole on the bottom. It works much better though if the rig is lifted up an inch or so. Then the air just gets sucked in the hole right to the fans and into the case. I like that configuration EXCEPT the HD cages DO block alot of air flow. That's the downside.

Yes, they do actually, and I don't like it at all either.
But the Casetek cases(on which the Xaser III is based on) are OK, they are better than OK, they are awesome really.
