Disk integrity cant complete when formatting drive, Please help quick

Basically the disk integrity check keeps stopping at different places in its progress like 1%, 26%, 27% and so on. Its and old hard drive that a client said they couldnt boot on windows one day after they had just been using it normally.

Could the hard drive be physically damaged?

yes, download thr drive manufacturers testing software and run non destructive tests on the drive to diagnose it.
