Hi,I'm working for prepare the mobo for the Mousepot.
I post some pict for tell you if my work it's ok.
The unit:
http://img496.imageshack.us/img496/7650/unit8sj.th.jpg (http://img496.imageshack.us/my.php?image=unit8sj.jpg)
I put the foam because the external foam it's a little too large and air can pass between the unit and the foam. With the adesive foam there's no this problem.
The back of the mobo:
http://img491.imageshack.us/img491/6465/mobob3gm.th.jpg (http://img491.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mobob3gm.jpg)
It's OK like this for the mobo's back?
http://img461.imageshack.us/img461/9674/coldp6rt.th.jpg (http://img461.imageshack.us/my.php?image=coldp6rt.jpg)
The socket:
http://img491.imageshack.us/img491/1323/sckt9xr.th.jpg (http://img491.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sckt9xr.jpg)

Looks good to me. Dialectric in socket & nail polish around the socket/caps is a good idea if you didn't do that yet.

I did a complete coating of nail polish under the layer of foam (similar to your foam job)

that held well for several hours.

When we did the wr clawhammer pifast - it was done like this.

You really need to make shure that the area around the cpu - is sealed of from "new air".. It must be 100% "tight". If it isnt 100% "tight" then it has disaster written all over it !

Worked flawlessly for me

ok, stupid question of the day, does this work with *any* nailpolish or does have
to have certain "ingredients"? like i don't want to browse around the nailpolish
section of the shop, buy something only to return later claiming "it doesn't work
the way i wanted". i mean, how ridiculous would that look (or seem to you?).

also, will your average nailpolish (varnish?) remover (acetone) suffice to remove
all traces of this "i paint my board / hardware in red" from the board?

and lastly how to work the socket? it's not anywhere near airtight, all around
the bottom of the socket is a given, but what about the area around the pin
under the socket? put enough paint on, tilt the board and have it run "under"
socket? gee so many questions...

time to get a girl again, less suspicious to get the polish / acetone that way ;)

I just used generic nailpolish for $1 :D Put it around the socket like in the picture above and on the other side of the MB in the socket area. Do NOT put it in the socket itself! Acetone should work fine to remove it.
You have to use some insulation material like armaflex or neophrene in the same area where you applied nailpolish. I did this and it worked great for me.

i have done about half a dozen runs with a chilly1 tube with no added insulation or grease or nail polish or other disgusting stuff. just 1/2" neoprene on the back, and round insulation around base. if you don't want condensation don't let the chip warm up.

I don't have nail polish...only dielectric grease.
I hope to have no problem.
On the back of the mobo it's sufficent only one layer of foam?
Anothe picture...do you think i'm ok?

The back of the mobo can be easily covered using spray laquer. I coat the whole back then some foam between the base and mobo. :)

Actually spray paint is two forms mostly enamel or laquer. Enamle is hard and chips easily. Laquer is more forgivving and softer. :)

looks pretty good to me, you might need to get around cold bug, try running sp2004 in the back with low priority and use clockgen to increase the cpu

Is that black tape electrical tape? Also how do you get your cpu's out from under all that?

vapb400
10-26-2005, 04:44 PM
You can just remove the tape/foam.

I just insulated up to the socket, but next time I'm definitely going to pop the IHS, and go right up the resistor packs.
Is there an issue with nail polishing the resistor packs?

Tks,the last time the cpu @ 3.7Ghz was around the -30°C and no problem of C.B....but the base of the unit don't touch very good the cpu:(
This time the base touch better and I hope to gain about 10°...

Heh i agree that Denmark is nice. I don't think it is that great for tourism, though. We don't have mountains or anything like Norway or Sweden. But i like to be here :)

Edit: even though the Netherlands are worse. They don't even have hills :D
