Have seen a few statements that win2k pro sp3 is the best OS for an AMD based system,
and that XP sp1 is really good for Intel.
Can anyone back these statements up? :D
I use my system for gaming 95% of the time.
It is AMD based.
Obviously I want to squeeze blood from a rock, so to speak.
Thanks for any input you may have. :toast:

I use mine for gaming and I think XP is much more stable.

I test it a bit by hitting the Windows key while in the game. 2k sometime caused my game to lock up and Xp always goes back into it flawlessly. So I'd say it's more stable. At least with games.

i also use xp on my amd system. i don't do a whole lot of gaming though.

technically 2k would have a little less overhead, but i doubt it's actually noticable.

Specifically, Mr. Icee was saying something about bandwidth: AMD apparently has better bandwidth on 2k than XP. I myself find XP to be pretty decent - especially tweaked out to take up a little space and resources as possible.
I somehow am reluctant to strip off XP and put on 2k for a couple hundred more 3dmarks. :D
thanks for your input, and if anyone else has something to contribute, by all means do!
Thanks again.

quick asnwer

500+pts on 3dmark were gained by going from a fresh copy of xp to win2k. It seems much faster and hadn't had any stability issues with it

The only thing with 2K is SOME issues with hardware and games, none of which i have with XP.

Yes i did also get a gain in 3DMark going to 2K. Also, although i did get a gain, i noticed very little difference in terms of real world performance in games, maybe 0.5-2fps

heheh, that's funny tweaked. :D

Eh, I'll just stick with xp, i've already got it on, and set up. 500 extra 3dmarks ain't gonna do jack for my gf3 anyhow.

Nice to know for the future, though.

Just as silly as those 3rd grade Icons are as oppose to the detail view in a folder window.

i put 2K on my new system and had nothing but problems with the damn nForce2 drivers and it having memory crashing problems when it started up.

Hate it! I put 98SE back on it, now that is the pimp gaming system!

451 pts from switch from 98se to 2ksp2. -811 to XPsp1. + 230 from XPsp1 to XP.

Went back to 2ksp2. 2ksp3 ran as fast as 98. Never tried sp1 or plain.

Go with 2k. I hate that ugly fisher price GUI. Microsoft "my first OS".

i like the Fisher Price look.

9x and 2k are just to blah for me.

the only reason I have to go with 2k is cause I own it legally. But I still use XP. Just so much nicer.
