I use my computer for 90% of my music listening and I feel a little disgraced by the fact that I still use onboard (DFI SLI-D onboard 'karajan') for it. Would I actually notice any better sound quality or clarity from moving to a £30-40 card such as an Audigy 2/2 ZS? The onboard seems clear and full to me..........

I use a big 'ol pair of old mordant short speakers:

Yes they really kick it when you turn em up.

(Quality isnt great due to light levels and shakey hands, but you gotta love that panaramic 3 shots in one taken on a Sony ericsson K750)

And I use a home-build amp:

Doesnt look much, but believe me it sounds perfect.

I am not sure what the specs on those speakers are but they do not look like they could benefit from a clearer signal a sound card will provide....

In there day they were pretty high spec speakers, I dont really get what your saying, that the noise and poor reproduction from old speakers means a better card would have no effect? :)

if u want the cheapest soundcard for best quality, get one thats abandoned.

i recommend turtle beach quadzilla 2 (win2k only)
or if ur on xp,
santa cruz

both under $15, and crisp awesome sound
what the catch?
theres no drive updates or support.
