Working fine.

edit:

Just this week I bought a new PSU, Antec SP2.0 500W to OC the hell out of the 650 but I was told the 0509 were better than the 0422 and so I did update the BIOS Tuedsay Oct. 4 to the 0509. Yes, there was a difference from 0422 to 0509 but going from 0509 to 0519 has no difference at all, I get the same options as I did previously but either way I'm just glad I have the BIOS posted on ASUS's site, I was a bit skeptical about 0509 for not being on ASUS's site.

Any visible improvements over 0509 and 0512? In description doesn't say like it helps too much, but hey, ya never know :p:

One improvement is about the problem that some folks had with the Plextor 716SA.

It was solved already one the 0512 but now it's oficial.

Cool ... because I've got the 716SA.

Let's hope it's almost a good overclocker as the others from the 05xx family.

bigstan, which bios did you have before?

umm, I was using 509 as well but never got the 5C drop you got, I take it your CPU is aircooled right? and is the 5C drope at idle or load or both?

maybe your lowered your vcore a bit?

kindda wired if you ask me, what method did you use to flash your board? I used the asus update one.

just flased 0519 a couple hours ago, no change in temp, no noticable changes from 0509, i was hoping they'd find a way to stop the overvolting without a hard mod. (if that would even fix it?)

Well, I guess it wasn't the BIOS change that made my temps go down. Not that I need to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I'm sure wondering what happened. 'Cause I sure haven't changed anything in my rig lately other then the BIOS.

When I first build my system, as usual I saw 33c @ 4.0ghz as I did with the AG8 (the 650 used to be in), no biggie I never pay attention after that but I remember seeing my temps go from 33c to 44c flipping in between with the 0422, I can say that I didn't pay attention when I got the 0509 but now with the 0519 I've been paying somewhat some attention and can see that my temp remains in the 33c and it doesn't go up from there, when system is idling that is.

Now, the other part I found was the EIST having the "Minimal", set it in the BIOS to that and my 650 finally booted @ x14multi, when it re-booted it say 2.8ghz in the BIOS but when I started the system AIBooster said 3.4ghz. I got it upto 260fsbx14 but I got BIOS corrupted @ 270fsb, maybe because I need water cooling or set my CPU/RAM to 1:1? This is what I got with 250fsb x14 @ 3.5ghz (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Nasgul/33c.png), did PCMark05 and didn't like what I saw: 4634. I think I got 44xx with stock speeds RAM set to 1:2. I like better the multi set to x17 and FSB to 237 with 1:2 ratio, it gave me a 5096 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm05=113127 ) PCMark05.

I would still say that the AIBooster software needs a patch or something to make it work properly, I feel it to be a bit buggy. :slapass:

Nobody notice the extra option of

"Dram Throttling Threshold"

in chipset settings?

I also got EIST settings now for

"Minimum speed"

and yes... silly Ai-Booster says I've got 14x multi with EIST set to "Minimum"... but Cpu-Z says I got 15x multi... bloody Asus utility software.... still crap. :slap:

Can't enable 14x multi with "baby" 630 chip... :(

the dram option has always been there, at least in 509 bios.

I believe that u need a P4 660 to have a 14x multi.

I own a Extreme Editon 840. With This Bios, CPUz Reports my CPU as a P4 with 1 core, and 3 HT Units.... Significant reducing performance in most applications for me. Is this even possible? I went back to 0422 and CPUz reports the EE as normal... anyone else have this issue?

Also, While Overclocked I need to put my CPU Voltage at 1.5V because when all 4 threads are at 100% load (4 instances Prime for example) my VCore drops significantly to 1.37V

Are you sure about this? I didn't see anything about it.... I thought the presler was going to need the 975 chipset? I have a chance to get a Presler es, but wasn't in any hurry because of that.

The 0519 BIOS has an option for "Minimum" in the SpeedStep setting. If you select Minimum it will force a 14 multi with your 830D proc. Some monitoring proggies won't show it as a 14 multi because they aren't reading it right. But you can see it if you use CPUz

sluflyer06

remember that using speedstep to drop the multi to 14x still forces your rig to POST at the higher multiplier before it switches over.

I haven't tried the new bios yet. But if there are problems with it then I probably won't touch it. I am running the 0422 bios as well and have had no troubles with it.
I do notice a big droop in vcore when loaded 100%. I have mine set to 1.4v in bios. It reads 1.42v on AsusProbe but underload it drops to 1.30v. But the system is stable with those voltages at 3.7 ghz.

OK, thanks sluflyer06.

I understand that, but why do those "other" system monitoring tools like Everest etc, and even Futuremark benchies, record clock speed at the cpu's default multi. I mean what if you run one of those benchies and it records your cpu at a false reading compared to what Cpu-Z is capable off reading.
Why can't these software writers get there act togeather like Cpu-Z can?
Cpu-Z is highly respected tool for measuring clock speed.

sluflyer06
10-13-2005, 08:18 AM
thats a good question and i understand what your asking, i wish i had a good answer, i've seen that happen when I"ve tried to use AIBooster for example aqumark3 doesn't read the change in clock speed until a restart and at least for me 3dmark reads teh higher clockspeed of the cpu when using a software overclock but does not read a change in fsb or ram speed......doesn't make a whole lot of sense :(

try the theory out in 3dmark05 boot at whatever u want then change the FSB using a software overclock tool and then re-open 3dmark05 and click on the detail button for your system before u run teh bench and the clock speed will probably read what you just changed it to, but the "fsb" detail reads what it was before the change.

from asus web site 14 x multi supposed to be from 6\550 & up
i think that we are just enjoying a bug in asus bord\bios
And because of that bug "Other" system monitoring cannot read it properly
btw i had 14 x multi from bios 509

When I boot my system up, I have set the latest version for P5WD2 mobo utility "Ai-Booster" to start on boot.
It measures the correct speed of my cpu with the 14x multi, but after about 5 seconds it reverts to the 15x multi...

Today, I did a 12 hour test of Sp2004 x 2, set to priority 8 for both using the in-program custom cpu test.
It measures the cpu as 15 x and not 14 x like Cpu-Z does :stick:

This gives me the     in other words... fricken anoying !

If i understand right the prob is that the 14x exists but it isn't been reported by other measuring utilites exept from CPUz?

Intel advertises that 975X chipset will give the official support for Presler, so Asus doesn´t want to piss off Intel by advertising that their i865PE - i955X socket 775 motherboards can support Presler too ;)

Guys, got a question for ya :

I jumped to the DDR2 wagon last week (my first ever so bare with me).
Got the P5WD2 and 2*512 OCZ PC6400 EB.

I have a 630 which ran nicely at 4050Mhz on the DFI 875P-T.
Cooling is TT Big Typhoon.

Right now, I have my rig running at 4250Mhz, 1.475V (bios) 1.44V load.
Im getting temps like 64-65°C, temp in the room is pretty warm.
Opening the window and letting some fresh air in reduced my load temps to around 56-57°.

I was wondering if these temps are normal on the P5WD2.
I first thought the temps were too high, but I checked if the cooler was making good contact to the core. Contact was OK.

Thinking of going to WC this rig too, not 100% sure though.

Bios is v. 0422

Temps are normal for a 630 running @ 4+ ghz.
I'm running my crappy 630 which can't go past 3.9-4.0ghz with 1.55v and temps never exceed 56-57'C with a room temp of 21'C. What's your room temp?

Jupiler
10-23-2005, 12:41 AM
Room temp was about 25-26°C.

I noticed that the cpu fan wasn't spinning at 100%, did around 900rpm.
Have it at 100% now, and temp went down another 3-4°.
So I guess that the temp readout was pretty much ok.

Yep, fan is hooked on the chassis_fan1 connector and Q-Fan was set at Performance.
