i have a shuttle SN25P with 2 Maxtor SATA 300GB DiamondMax 10 HDD's in RAID 0.

it ran fine for a few weeks, then all of a sudden, one of the harddrives just fails and the PC wont see the hard drive anymore when i go into bios. and because they are working in RAID 0 windows dont work no more. but then if i leave it overnight it works again ...then if i leave it on for a bit, it screws up again. i thought it was a temperature problem at first, but i left the case open, and it still happens. Sometimes when i leave it for a bit it and try again it still dont work. is one of the HDD's broke?

Download Maxtors testing tools and run the non destructuve tests with only one drive attached at a time.

But typically if it's not he drives, it's the cables

is this the one? LINK (http://www.maxtor.com/portal/site/Maxtor/menuitem.3c67e325e0a6b1f6294198b091346068/?channelpath=/en_us/Support/Software%20Downloads/View%20By%20Category/Desktop%20Storage/DiamondMax%20Family/Diagnostics&downloadID=113)

Cuz it says this on the bottom:

Note: PowerMax v 4.21 will not detect ATA or SATA hard disks connected to embedded, or add in RAID controllers, NVIDIA Force 3, Force 4, VIA KT 600 and KT 800 chipsets.

and the Shuttle SN25P has an Nforce 4 ...

should i try anyways?

No use that tool, what you do is
DISABLE RAID IN THE BIOS temporarily. This will not hurt your stripe if the stripe is healthy, you can enable raid later and it will be fine.
Disconnect one HD
run and use the bootable drive diagnostic software and run non destructuve tests. If it passes, unhook that drive and hook the other one up and test it.

When you are done testing, just reenable RAID in the BIOS with both drives connected.
