you can guarentee that the previous ways that people have hacked the xbox (bert and ernie,ftp, etc) will be fixed on the 360. it wull be possible eventually, but one person with an "idea" isnt going to make it happen :/

I don't really wanna make fun of the guy, b/c he's obviously either very young, grossly misinformed, or both. With that said, this thread deserves to have its own section on the forums or be put in an XS Hall of Fame somewhere.

It's funny b/c its such an awesomely straightforward plan for one of the more difficult tasks anyone could think to do. If given the choice between hacking an (as yet unreleased) Xbox 360 with a spare HD loaded with XP and creating world peace, I'd get crackin' on the world peace thing. ;)

Sorry for the flame/thread crap, but if ever there was a thread to crap on, this is it.

OK well microsoft has confirmed backward compatibility with the xbox so linux is possible but most likely wont happen. 2 the xbox 360 has built in usb so no need for spendty adapters for keyboards and mouses. the xbox has a drive that can read all formats of cd and dvd. why no use that new version or old i dont know i just found it on opensuse.com and you can boot and use linux for a cd no hard drive required. that should help. so what is so hard here it dsent make sence i will do it some time. or never depends. iahve a few thing i nned to do first so it will be awhile before i attempt.

That's not how you do it. You program a PIC and write directly to the memory. If you don't know how to work directly with the memory you can't do it.

First you would hook your memory up to a serial port and watch for what's called when it finds a legit CD. Then you would emullate those calls at a set time when you have a fake CD put in. A programmable PIC would be where to start for rewriting those addresses. If you want to get more advanced you can move up to a flash chip for some of the neat functions like the PS2 mod chips have, such as loading resources from any location, not just where the console expects. (The orignal Xbox mod chip features don't count because someone just stole a SDK and copied it, it was able to be plugged into plain Xboxes because all Microsoft did was disable the developer functions from their consoles and sells the same units)
