View Full Version : How low can your 12V go? :poet:

K R having some weird random freezes while playing BF2, and initially thought it was VCore stability, but from looking at Speedfan logs, it seems that the 12V rail is fluctuating wildly on this PSU =/

high = 11.86V
average = 11.7V
low = 11.13V !!!!

weird thing is, sometimes the system will run for days (6days 13hrs is record uptime) when playing BF2, and other times it will only run a few minutes of BF2 without changing a single param

whilst on the subject, the 3.3V seems a little low in the 3.07V-3.02V range

can anyone confirm that these voltages are bad and could be a cause for concern, or is this nothing out of the ordinary?

does anybody know if it is possible to tweak some pots in this PSU?

thanks in advance

K

BIOS/software is useless! MUST USE A DVM/DMM!

Like this: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=137886

The +12V spec is +/-5%, so +11.4V to +12.6V,
however anything outside of +11.70V to +12.30V is not acceptable to me.

very good point about the DVM, dunno why it slipped teh mind?

K will test that and return with some more data

thx for the reply

Anything below ~12.6v is not acceptable to me. Now that's semi extreme? :cool:

Yea man use a DMM. Speedfan reports my 12v as 11.9v... sometimes 12.1v And i know my PSU doesnt have that much droop.

ohnoesssssss

DVM reports 11.5V average, which is 0.2V lower than what SpeedFan was showing

that would then suggest the low is 10.9V!!!!! :eek:

time for a new PSU K thunks

How are you doing my friend?

As far as authorizations go, I letting them copy/link my PSU Guides, so I guess, it's ok.

so K decided to swap the 2x1GB sticks of RAM for the 2x512MB sticks and now the 12V rail has risen to average 12.2V and 12.1V low????

can RAM really suck up that much juice?

that's why K R confuseled =/

how can just switching out the RAM drastically affect the 12V readings?

how can just switching out the RAM drastically affect the 12V readings?It can't! In switching out the RAM, wires were moved... something, just be happy & enjoy! :toast:

GB Electrical GDT-11 Digital Multimeter

These are inexpensive, from a "known-good" manufacturer & universally available in the US.

Walmart stocks them for just under $15.

$12.68 online: http://acmehardware.com/pd-5751052-GB-Electrical-GDT-11-Digi-Multimeter-Tester.aspx

GB: http://www.gardnerbender.com/

GB Catolog PDF: http://www.gardnerbender.com/Products/product_list/pdf/01GB_TESTERS.pdf
It is on page 14.

More info & places to shop: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&rls=GGLD%2CGGLD%3A2005-08%2CGGLD%3Aen&q=GB+Electrical+GDT-11&btnG=Search

9V battery required & not included. The case color varies, the ones at Walmart are usually black.

If you don't already have one, this is a good one to get.
