I need a new PSU and I'm looking at newegg

I see a FSP 550w (PLG version, one 12v rail, not two) and a ZIPPY 500w

which do you suggest? I know I know it's one of those situations where I can't go wrong with either but it's only making the decision a harder one. so help me choose.

Is one more efficient than the other? i dunno, they are both so similar... who do YOU like better? FSP or Zippy?

Grab the zippy. Trust me you won't regret it :D I have the 460W version here and it is the same as that link you gave. If you happen to take a peak inside the unit. You'll be surprised the quality components that are lurking in there.....It has very stable rails. If you ever load that unit. Try and monitor the 5V rail. It should raise itself by .05 within load. :D

hmm...i've heard the FSP has potentimeters to adjust rail voltages, does the zippy have this as well?

well right now I'm running just a DFI nf4 setup but I just bought a dothan setup so I need another PSU, and I figured I may as well get one that will last me because my enermax 431w isn't the most future proof, esp. if I decide to get a p4 setup.

The zippy also has pots, 1x5V/12V and 1x3.3V. If you ever get the zippy and need more 3.3V/5V pm me and i'll send you the mods for it. :D

Both good but i'd probably say Zippy iirc Zippy has slightly tighter regulation.

Both are good.

FSP as it is on the DFI N4 "A" list & has +12V@36A, the Zippy only +12V@32A.

okay it arrived today finally, fedex took its sweet time all week

this PSU is pretty damn nice, the 24-pin ATX connector is all 16 gauge for the important stuff (+5vsb too which is good for my DFI board), and plenty of molexes, not too long either.

I'm very glad I bought it, I don't know if I would have been as as happy with the FSP as I am now

oh, and I found a better source than newegg: http://store.yahoo.com/mypccase/46foramdduat.html

the 460w is the same thing as this 500w I got, same current ratings and everything
if it's good enough for TAM (from team japan) and his intel 670 @ 7++GHz then it's good enough for me

Glad you liked your zippy bro. I'm sure you won't regret anything about it between the fortron :D So what are your first impression when you opened the box? When looking at the picture on the web, it looks like the casing is very cheap. But then once I had it on my hand. I was like damn. I never want to scratch it :D

Congrats and Welcome to the Zippy Club!! :toast:

i know the case looks like it's nickel plated or something, definitely not the same el cheapo steel most PSUs are encased in...and much more scratch resistent lol

i love the simplicity of it, no on/off switch, no volt selector, just a socket for power, a clip to keep the cord from pulling off, and ONE 80mm fan...I was making a point to avoid multiple fans or 120mm fans for this purchase.
