Another one here (http://happy.ap.teacup.com/maiko2/47.html#readmore). ;)

Be sure to let us know. I want to get nearly that exact same configuration in the future.

with CABGE 0536 am only up to FX55 speed. The only thing making a difference with speed is vCORE, period..ended up putting mem timings back to SPD raised HT back up to 5, ect.

at 265 cpu setting cannot get sPI32M stable...270 and above is windows corrupt.

System as stands is BIOSTAR Tforce6100-939, 146, pair of 512MB SuperTalent CS2, WD2500KS, XFX 6800GS, Aspire X-Qpack...budget oc all the way.
Went with Thermaltake Big Water SE instead of Zalman...it did 36-38c with prime 95 a few hours.

So should I keep it as is? This forum reports CABGE 0536 is 2700/2800ish and mainboard is reported as max 272 cpu setting stable from review site. I think to go on is to RAISE Voltage even more...1.65v bios setting shows 1.54 in CPU-z after boot - next jump is 1.75, 1.85v ect. - Have room on temps but is big voltage jumps.

Any ideas??

I just removed one on my 146 CABYE 0536GPMW. Load temps of 53C on Water with a Swiftech Storm had me pissed so off it came.

Load temps dropped 14C to 39C with 1.55v @ 2800MHz.

Be very carefull using the razor blade. I found it much easier to slide the razor blade under the IHS at a corner, more like just pushing it under the IHS. But take care not to slide blade in to far. There are some circuits in there that can be damaged. Just take a look at one some has posted with the IHS off and you will see what I mean.

I'm sure someone else has posted this in this thread before but here it is again. A short movie on the removal. This fella used a razor and a screw driver to pry the IHS off. I didn't like the idea of twisting a blade under the IHS so I just used the razor to cut the sealing material but either will work.

IHS Removal (http://www.desertshooter.nl/IHS2.wmv)

Good luck!

Yesterday I removed my 148's IHS and reduced temps in about 10C! I was refusing to do that but reading your post I said, enough to that stupid heat. Now at 1.5V my temps are around 55C full load with an XP-120 and low RPMs :D

tis one came off easier than any one I have ever done. i juse use a ultra thin double sided rasor blade and start at a corner and slice evenly all the way around and then once more all the way around to be sure it's free. then use the tip of an exacto blade to gently pry one corner up. took about 2 minutes. the key is using a new sharp blade on each side if necessary.

it is a good investment but depends if youre lucky with the cpu, most people i spoke to said theres started @ -20C and knowing my luck id have the same problem and dont fancy putting high volts through to try and raise temps, the only way youll know is by trying it, you may have a better cpu?

Mine seemed to work just fine. I made sure that I didn't tighten my waterblock to tight. Now that the AS5 has settled in my temps are slightly lower. Right now Room temp is 20C and load temp on water is 34C @ 2.8GHz CABYE 0536 1.55v

Mayday, mayday, mayday.

I have a huge problem and it makes me nuts.

I changed from E3 venice to opteron 146 and when i booted to windows the comp booted itself after awhile. So i installed all drivers again hoping it would solve everything. Nothing changed.

Then i installed a fresh windows. Now when i started a web browser AN INSTANT REBOOT. It does this with IE and Mozilla Firefox. I have tried 623-3 and 7xx bioses and its no go :(

This makes me mad mad mad mad mad.

Edit: mayday cancelled. After trying everything i tried another lan port and everything works fine. Damn im stupid :slap:

i popped in the opty 150. cant pass prime after ~2.7GHZ. same deal with my SD core. SPI32M passes well after that. i will try this LAN port thang, as well as disabling everything and trying again.

you guys think i should raise my +12 rail? doesn't appear low, but two cpu's, similar 'prime95' limit. doesn't make any sense.

also noticed that dual channel with my classic BH5 is iffy. will get no boot when both sticks in initially (after CCMOS clear, etc.). the only way i can do it is if i pop one stick in top orange, boot up, shutdown, stick the second stick in lower orange, and then itll boot up.

similar deal with the UTT BH.

the CH5 doesnt appear to exhibit this issue.

tested on fxtest60. things appear slightly better on 704-2bt, but it is still there (the 'wierdness').

any thoughts?

I havent had the time to even test the opteron yet. Hopefully i hit 3Ghz+ with Air cooling CABYE0540FPBW it is.

Good luck, I got the same stepping. 3Ghz should be attainable but probably with nuclear reactor :p:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=40372&stc=1

Will Prime until 2.94Ghz for 30min, then 1.504v for 2.95~2.97Ghz. And then I get killed by temps. IHS removed, hetasink lapped mirror-like finish and as5 was used. Venus12 Cooler at 6000rpm and I get 53C Load with 1.504v

This cpu should prime at 1.6v@3000Mhz, but guess what happened when I tried that?. 34C idle, fired up Prime then after 1 sec. 44C, after 2 sec. 54C (I thought this ain't good), after 3 sec. 61C  and then after every 2 sec. it went 1C up until 65C and then I stopped Priming.

So now I run 2.9Ghz at 1.392v, btw my CABYE 0536GPMW ran at avg. 10C cooler at same speeds with same setup. No worry though, Big Typhoon + 151cfm delta is coming soon ;)

my current philosophy on the IHS.. is 100mhz (max) worth the posibility of killing your cpu? is it really? will you be going for a WR with this cpu? No?? then why the 100mhz..

And in my experience I gained 0mhz from popping the IHS and in one case ended up with a cpu that was doa after ihs removal. the other one that gained no mhz died within a few months after ish removal..

so is it really worth it.. no...

thats why my 146 taht does 2.9ghz will be staying with its IHS firmly planted on the core for as long as it shall live.

EPMW was earlier one of the best overclockersteppings. Those letters are nothing but dates and wafer sequence numbers - comparable only within the same date. They have no relevance when comparing procs with different dates.

Yes you have right nothig is comparable. Only same Productionweek and SN.
And even then is a lucky thing to get an good CPU.

But EPMW where in the Past FX Steppings and APMW and GPMW and MPMW etc.

Hmmm.. any particular reason I havn't been reading a lot about the 17x's? I'm looking at getting an AMD system and am just trying to do the last leg of research on whether to get a 170/175 or just jump to something else alltogether like a 144/146.

I like the idea of a dual core, but I can't find any benches or anything to compare the 170-series with other AMD (and, for a laugh, Intel) options. How do they rate in comparison to, say, the other contenders like the 4400+, X2 4400+, FX-57, etc. I would really appreciate any input or links anyone can dig up.

i have a weird problem. i can run 300 x 9 at 1.3v with memory at 1:1. Also, i can run 290 x 10 at 1.344v (cpu-z) for some time, sometimes reboots (messing around with mem. timings should fix this). BUT, when i trie to boot up / prime at 280 x 10, my system boots to windows, then EITHER reboots instantly, OR primes for a couple of minutes, than reboots.

I'm using bios 623-3 and have all options set to defaults, except 2.5-4-3-7. Could Max. Async or Read Preamble settings cause this? (Because they're set to AUTO). Also, could it be that the DFI SLI-DR uses different settings for let's say 250-290FSB and 290+ when set to AUTO? Should i set them manually?

tnx!

Hi there, short term lurker and my first post - I got a CAB2E 0540 FPMW the other day, and I am extremely dissapointed :(

I am having to run it at 2475mhz at 1.55 volts currently - anything higher clock wise and it fails all of my stress tests, within 6 seconds. Even with 1.6volts and slightly higher - 2700mhz on 1.65v is a no go. Super pi fails doing the 128k calculation never mind the 1m calculation.

Using an NF3 Ultra (Epox 9NDA3J) even back flashed to what is considered the best o/c BIOS of the April 2005 version.

I have an AKASA 460W Paxpower CPU,
XP-120 with L1A Panaflo fan
x800 xt pe

I think the CPU is just a really poor clocker, I have tried with the timings and ram dividers on the lowest they can go - but no luck. So far I have run about 10 hours of SP2004 and I think the clock speed I am at is stable now. Also the HTT is set at 3X (275HTT)

Temps under load are 47-49C :(

Peter

hmm I seem to be in the same boat with my 144 locks up @ 285 can run stable @ 280 ?? maybe

Yes .. similar here with the AMD distributors not knowing about 939 Opteron, or maybe due to no demand.... hence I got my 2 CABYE 146 0540 from HKG about 4 weeks ago.

Hi Primoz

I am going to test the chip during the next few hours :)

BTW, CABYE 0540FPBW seem to be a little better than CABYE 0540APMW. Actually, it's difficult to conclude because of the small number of feedbacks concerning the CABYE 0540APMW, but CABYE 0540FPBW are doing high if not like good old CABNE 05~~ at least they exeeced 3GHz on a general basis.

Do these things run ungodly hot, or is it just mine? On decent water, at 3GHz/1.55V my brand new CAB2E 0540 FPMW idles around 37C but load hits 60C. In the same rig, my 3200 Venice idles at 24C and maxes at 34C.

Try reseating the block? Or time to go lidless?
my CAB2E was similar, 36C idle 52C load @ 3ghz on WC, heard other CAB2E's running hot aswell but im now running 3.1ghz 33C idle 38C load with no IHS :D

yea they do run hot mines about 34 idle 47 load , 3g 1.58v. aMp yours does seem to be real hot if you have decent water cooling , mine didnt reach 60 on load even on air cooling @ 3g

I have problems installing WinXP in an old HDD that I use in my testing plateform because of non-bootable CD... so results for the CABYE 0540APMW are not for now... additionally I have just received a 144 CABNE 0540BPMW; Are there any feedbacks about this stepp out there?

EDIT: I've just seen very negative feedbacks about 144 CABNE 0540BPMW

well, i think i'm gonna ask this again:

i have a very strange problem. My opty 146 is absolutely stable @ 300 x 9 @ 1.3v. This with bios 623-3, memory at 1:1 and everything set to default except 2.5-4-3-7. Now, when i want to test at 270 x 10, no matter what voltage i use, i get a BSOD within a few minutes. How on earth could this be possible? I mean if my mem can do 300 1:1, 270 should be a breeze, isn't it? Also, at 280x10 or 290x10 it's same problem: BSOD's allover the place. Please help!

What do you define as stable for the 300x9?

And memory that can do 300 MHz on one CPU might not do it on another. Did you try a divider?

stable = 8h+ prime95 custom test w/ in-place FFT's changing every 15min.

There's something wrong here, i know my mem can do up to 310 1:1 (G.Skill PC4400LE TCCD).

run memtest86 test 5 and 8 with both (300 and 270). change your timings to 2.5-3-3-7@270mhz and drive strength options. Also do not increase your chipset voltage (LDT voltage) this can make your memory very unstable. Strange indeed. what is your vdimm? for 300 and 270?

Also currently testing a 148 - CABYE 0543FPMW

Dont have a problem hitting 2900Mhz with stock vcore, though there is a jump to hit 3Ghz...Well im not sure what it is but i think im having heat related issues as im on AIR.

Going to try with water next week so i will have a better indication!

MY cabne 0530 apmw is rediculously hot too. It is hotter than all the other cabne's on here. Mine idles at 45c and loads at 56c without the IHS and with an aquagate mini.....not the best water cooling by far, but better than air no doubt. It used to get up to over 60c with the zalman 7700cu, but I would stop running it. This is at 3.0g with 1.5v.
I have reset the block and as5 several different times, but it is still a devilishly hot ass chip.

Nice Chip r2 and what are your Loadtemps on Air and your Ambient Temp?
Thanks :)

Ambient temp is app. 24-26c, have been having cold nights
Load Temp: At the clocks i posted it hits 39c running super_pi 32Mb, 40-41c Stresscpu and 42-43c running cpuburnK7. This is according to Probe 2 and Speedfan at stock vcore.

But i think the temp readings are wrong! Prob should add 8-15c...(assuming)

People have been reporting that their DFI Expert boards (In OCAU and i4memory forums) are also have wrong readings with Opterons, some say you should add 15-20c.

i ran memtest86 yesterday, no errors. LDT & chipset voltage @ default. vDimm = 2.7v, any higher and memtest starts to give errors. Could my memory be broken? Or is undervolting (running 2700 @ 1.3v for a long time) damaging my cpu?

Will try 510-2FIX and 704-2BTA (Tony OCZ) tomorrow and see if this helps. The strangest of all is that these settings worked flawlessly, and now they don't :(

Had a similar problem with OCZ 4200 Plats, ran perfectly for some time and suddenly they stopped! I kept getting BSODs no matter what settings i used (Yes, even @stock)(did load in WinXp using 2T but still crashed)...Not sure what caused the problem but had to rma the kit.

OCZ was great as usual, good news was...I received a much better kit :woot:
