View Full Version : P4 Phase OC...what PSU are you using?

I have a Powerstream 600W dual 12V rail. It's working fine for the 5GHz clocks I can get out of this old 550, but it's a really tight fit in my case with the phase setup and I am just not happy about that. I am contemplating a P4 660 as well as a new PSU shorter than the OCZ (7" long) for a little more room, but before I shell out for another PSU, my question for those running big clocks is are you using a single 12V rail (~36A) or a dual 12V rail PSU?

What PSU are you using that is cutting it for 5-6GHz OCs, 2-3HDDs, optical, etc. So far, I have no plans to upgrade the vid card I have, but would like to leave room to OC something a little beefier down the road.

How about the MGE Vortec 600W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817167012)? I had never seen it before yesterday via a link here on XS, but it has seemingly good reviews and strong 5V (40A) and 12V (37A) rails. Any users? I can't seem to find any dimensions though :(

Short of that, I am open to suggestions, so please fire away...

You'd want a single rail psu, but that MGE's a terrible psu. I suggest a Fortron/Sparkle 550w, PCP&C 510w or the OCZ Powerstream 520w.

Thanks for the reply. That's about what I figured on the XG. That's the Sparkle FSP550-60PLG, right? I would've gotten the OCZ 520W and not asked a thing, but it's the same size as the 600W and size is the issue first and foremost. PCP&C is cha-ching and I can only get myself to buy one $200 PSU per year :D

That's the Sparkle FSP550-60PLG, right? +12V@36A :toast:

Or $300+ for a Zippy 700W, +12V@45A.

Hehe. Thanks again, but I think I'll pass on the $300+ PSU...I could only wish I'd need a 45A 12V rail :)
