Hi guys,
I see PWMIC thingy on smartguardian and its temp is 80'C!! :slobber: (I am running Primr95)
What is the safe temps for PWMIC and where the heck is this thing on mobo?
(I have DFI UT Lanparty SLI-D)
Temps for my CPU is 39'C and CHIPSET is @ 49'C

Pulse Width Modulation Integrated Circuit. Regulates how much power gets to the cpu. If it gets too hot, then the power circuit for the cpu gets less efficient. If that happens, the cpu gets less stable.

hmm, sounds very dangerous stuffs if something goes wrong with PWMIC ...
so my temps normal under 100% loads on both of my cores?
Also, what can I do to lower my PWMIC? and where is this chip? or thing on mobo?

p.s. thx for the quick lecture Mr. Tinker. ;)

that's the power management IC

Oh, I see where it is now.
That little thing can get really hot.
Thx for the nice picture linky moon.

I suggest you put a quite fan on the PWMIC heatsinks.. they really shouldnt be getting that warm..

I dont remember what temp they are rated for, but IIRC you are under the rated max temp..

power FETs tend to be rated in the 125C+ range, so the only things at danger are nearby components that don't like the heat so much

Good info, Sorcerer.

Hmm, I should get a ramsink thingy and put a fan around that area.
thx for all the great info here guys.

The DFI board has a pretty good heatsink on the power circuitry already, so just get it a little airflow and you'll be good. When I installed my H2O kit, my PWMIC reading went to over 60C under load; I put a super-low-flow fan over the area and it dropped into the high 30s/low 40s.

I agree, a little air across those heatsinks/components will take care of the problem.

Shouldn't this be moved to the mobo section?
