anyway grab the new 5.9's at https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293

quickly tested on 05 and i see a 50 mark improvement over the 5.8's, am now trying games etc for known issues

I realized, that the 5.9 cats have an issue with the DVI port. When you unplug it and plug it back in you have to reboot for the screen to come back. I'm kinda pissed. Anyone else have this issue?

i dont get that on my 9800se and being an AIW i have to use dvi port, maybe its only on your card? or maybe pulling the cable out has dislodged the card somehow??

It's not a physical issue. Never did it before the 5.9s. The vga port works fine.

That does not happen for me, I just tested. Are you running a full dvi -> dvi cable or one that goes dvi -> vga ?

I'm using a DVI cable to my 2405FPW.

EDIT: For w/e reason, the problem has gone away lol. Sorry :P.

further analysis from jamo: i quite like these drivers, they have decent performance across all games / benches, the image quality is better than the 5.8's but still not as good as the 5.7's image quality wise (one of the best IMO) i've also noticed an issue in quake 3 where i cant seem to vsync the screen so it just tears, not sure this is driver specific tbh as i've only just put the game back on so only tested on the 5.9's

Ive been experiencing some game instability afther updating from 5.8 to 5.9

My brother just got BF2, and when i had 5.8 it crashed afther some minutes, maybe afther more than a hour. When it crashed, I decided to go 5.9, and now it crashes between 5 - 30 min.
5.9 also made CSS crash in the middle of a game, which didnt happen before.

It may be that I installed 5.9 wrong or it may be that the new drivers are buggy, but it was fine with 5.8, so I guess Ill go back to 5.8 instead of trying to make 5.9 work.

I didnt have 5.7 when I got BF2.
Is 5.7 the best for BF2 stability?

Shouldn't be. I had some serious hitching probs with the 5.7s in BF2, even with 2GB of RAM; the 5.8s fixed it. YMMV, of course.

I still like the 3.7s best.

Nope. I've found the 5.9s to be the best yet. 6 straight hours last night on BF2 without a hitch over a few different servers. This is on my OC'd gaming rig.

Second best for BF2 is the 5.7s. The 5.8s caused a few systems to ctd after the logo.

Overall the 5.9s seem great.

5.9s have screwed up my system, hardcore. I was in the middle of a nice mission with some friends on Guild Wars and then my system hangs. The screen TURNS OFF as if someone has ripped out the VGA cable, and then my system sits there. I rebooted and went back into the game and it did it again. I tried again, the same results.

It has also made CSS crash a few times, and that didn't happen with the 5.3s ( ) that I was using before. I didn't even notice that much of a speed increase.

F*** you, ATI.

Unfortunately the 5.4's have been by far my favorite. They seem to have been the most stable in my system. The 5.9's have seriously borked my rig and I have 2GB. It seems like they fix one problem and create another. Job security I guess? :) I think they owe us another non-buggy Cat driver and let them have a ball screwing up the rest for the next three months.

I've used cat 4.12's, cat5.8 and cat5.9 and never had a problem with things. All drivers installed fine and ran everything fine. I guess I'm just lucky.

LMFAO^

Anyway...this has happened to me twice now, first with 5.8 and now 5.9, I have completely lost my Overdrive feature. I use ATI Tool as well, so it's not that big of a deal, but it's really annoying. What would cause the Overdrive feature to suddenly dissapear after weeks of normal use? Unfortunately, I want to use 5.9 so I can play with Adaptive AA, but I am also getting a few random freezes in Halo as well with 5.9.

Overdrive shouldn't just dissapear for no reason like this. Boo.

EDIT: CAT 5.10 is out. Going to give those a shot right now.
