I have a pc p&c 850 SSI.
Today I randomly opened smartguardian and noticed rail voltages are changing up and down frequently. Is this a bad sign?

no, because software cannot be trusted.

So it is ok and nothing is wrong?

I ran every other programs, same result.. up and down constant.
The best method is to verify the voltage using an voltage meter.
(not to mention oscilloscope)
Every PSU's has its minimum power requirement, however the p&c 850 SSI specification does not specify these requirement.
This PSU is suppose to be super good.
Please specify your system components.
How much does the voltage fluctuates ?

I see +5v rail keeps changing from 5.1~2.
I do not have all my components in since I am testing atm.
X2 core,a gig ram, 1x 7800gtx, 3 sata hd, sc, dvd, floppy.
Not much at all.
Another 850 I have does change too but not as frequently as this one.
I am just annoyed this thing keeps changing every second.
I have no experience myself with the software voltage testing, but it is not exact.
I wouldn't worry too much.
Here's some programs you might find useful (System information: AIDA32),

Also you are having some good stuff in your PC.
If you could specify your motherboard other members could help you.
Use the AIDA32.
Edit, I really like this PSU, here I have some more information links ...

Like the above person said, check the rails with multimeter. :stick:
Btw, you got a monster of a psu :D

(1) No it is not good.
(2) Don't trust software, use a DMM like this: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=137886
(3) What are your system specs?
The PC P&C 850SSI is designed for multi-CPU workstations with highend video & at least 8HDD's.
You are probably not suppling enough load to stabilize the 850, especially not enough +5V load.
Good Luck,

Get a Zippy 700W ;) Before I killed mine (don't ask :p: ) it was by far the best performing psu I've ever owned. It was able to hold voltages within .02V of whatever it was set @ on a loaded fx processor:
(Emc2 will recognize the pic ;) )

LOL....not that way....lets just say that psu's and standing water don't mix very well ;) It's currently in the hands of an expert for repair. And BTW, mine wasn't 12v@45a it was:

That is out of spec big time! Did you make (mod) it that high?

Dave in Daytona have you seen any specifications about the cross loading requirement for the p&c 850 SSI ?

Dave in Daytona have you seen any specifications about the cross loading requirement for the p&c 850 SSI ?Not official ones, however jonnyGURU@SLCenteral can give you some gross guidelines,
they are very close to the Zeus 650W.
Basically +5V@10A or more & +5V@15A for top +12V performance. :toast:
Thanks, it seems it correlates to the spec for the 650W Silverstone ST65ZF-GM PSU.
