I know the 520 model (620 peak) is usually recommended, but I was short on cash awhile back and had to make do with this 420 (520 peak). It's been a good psu. Stable, cool, quiet. I have been running a Venice overclocked and a Geforce 6800 overclocked no problem. I'm moving on to a Geforce 7800GT or GTX now. My question is --- will this psu be ok? I'm not planning on SLI'ing yet, if ever, since I have a DFI Ultra-D anyhow. Has 30a on the 12v.

The 7800 GT(X) has nearly the same power usage as the 6800 series, so i see no probs with it ;)

I agree, that 420W powerstream is a tough little SOB. That thing outperforms 90% of the 500W PSU's on that market, so I wouldn't worry about it not delivering.

You should have no problems.

as far as i know(which isn't much) the 7800 series draws less @ idle but at load the 7800 uses more than the 6800's

just something to keep in mind

^ Well, it's not SLI, so why would there be a problem? 520 version is 33a versus the 30a on this one.

As long as you don't run SLI it WON'T be a problem. If you're able to run a 6800 just fine, then you shouldn't have a problem with a 7800
