Just purchased a 4-1 kit (cheap!!) dont think an 80w peltier is gonna cope with the X800XT PE though. So, question is this (i've heard conflicting stories on this)
If I want to run without the tec, will removing it, along with the coldplate leave me with a bog standard Maze4 GPU block?
Some people have suggested leaving the cold plate on, but this is gonna require a little moddage to get the contact decent.

Cheers guys

The Maze 4-1 block itself (independant of the coldplate) has a flat base, to accomodate the peltier and coldplate.

The Maze 4 waterblock has a raised base (the same shape of raised base as the Maze 4-1 Coldplate has), so as to make proper contact with your GPU, allowing one to install it without removing any GPU shims.

So, you should be able to use the Maze 4-1 block by itself, but may need to remove your GPU shim.

An 80W/16V peltier will work fine with an X800 series card if run on 16V, although for really good results you'll want something beefier.

Yea just whipped the Coldplate off :)
Its gonna be run off an old PSU, so only 12v which will give ~ 60-65w :( Might be ok for the 9500, but not the X800 I fear. Looking at each of the ATI cards here, the cores are all slightly higher than the shims, so might get away with leaving them on

Cheers for the swift reply and putting my mind at ease

Just be carefull to check that you have a good mount before you use it.

Dont put a tec on a psu that cant supply it. Bad bad things can happen.

Dont use a TEC without the coldplate either.
