Yes....I just got(finally) my IT7-Max2 V.2 Motherboard......The UNFORTUNATE thing is that it is WITHOUT the "famous" resistor....A friend of mine who bought one two weeks before me,it was WITH the resistor......Now the FORTUNE thing is that.....I'm an Electronic Engineer so I can do ALMOST everything....!!!!

Today I'll show you how to Modd one of these Mobos.....

Here's a photo of the Mobo without anything on it....

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/23.jpg

These Modds are for ALL VERSIONS of ABIT IT7-Max2.....V.1 - V.2(with the resistor) - V.2(without the resistor)

hipro5
01-02-2003, 09:01 PM
Now....for stabillity reasons we put heatsinks ALL OVER the Mos-Fets and on the tiny chips too....

.....and we have this.....

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/1.jpg

hipro5
01-02-2003, 09:02 PM
.....and this.....

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/2.jpg

hipro5
01-02-2003, 09:04 PM
....and from another point of view.....

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/4.JPG

hipro5
01-02-2003, 09:08 PM
Now....We Modd first WITHOUT the VGA card on board, the Vagp....We can see a tiny chip on the LEFT of the PLL controler(RTM360-110R) which is "LM324"......

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/28.jpg

hipro5
01-02-2003, 09:17 PM
As we can see there are two small SMD resistors(black ones) and one capasitor(brown one).....
The LEFT resistor is 1Kohm and wrights on it "102"....
We solder a resistor(SMD or regular 1/4 watt) of "1,2Kohms" (122) to the UPER end of the LEFT resistor(102) to the lower end of the next one to it as we can see in photo....
With this Modd we now have "1,8Vagp"

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/36.jpg

hipro5
01-02-2003, 09:28 PM
Now....WITHOUT ANYTHING on the Mobo(no CPU-no Memory module-no VGA),we are going to Modd the VCore so as we can get Max(with this modd) VCore1,825Volts WITHOUT Vid-pin the CPU....
The chip we are interested of is the one CLOSE to the UPER side of the CPU socket.....
It is called "HIP6301C8".....
As we can see in photo,we solder an SMD(or regular 1/4 watt) resirtor of "33Kohms"(333) "crossed" the two missing resistors of the cirquit....

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/10.jpg

hipro5
01-02-2003, 09:35 PM
....and a closer look.....

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/9.jpg

With this Modd we now have "Max" VCore 1,825 Volts....Be carefull cos into bios, when we "PUT" 1,725 VCore, "MEANS" we HAVE 1,825VCore....In other words, when we "put" a dessired VCore we have to "ADD" another 0,1Volts on it....We can see it on Winbond Monitor into bios or into Windows.....

hipro5
01-02-2003, 10:14 PM
......and now the final and MOST DESSIRED Modd is the Vmem.....
IF your Mobo HAS all the resistors and capasitors OVER the chip "FAN5063" (six of them) on board, then ONLY put a 20Kohms trimmer INSTEAD of the 2Kohms one(*read below)....IF it has a "MISSING" resistor(the fourth one from the left to the right) ,then just do the following.....B]

[B]With this Modd we can HAVE 3,5Vmem(VDDR)....
To do so,first we have to Modd our PSU and espesially the 3,3V line....We have to make it 3,64Volts....If not then the Max we can get is 3,1Vmem.....
Looking at this chip and at about 5cm to the right of it,we can see a DIODE....It is underneath the Mos-Fet....We UNSOLDER it and we place there a coil(L) of 0,8mm fatness, 12 rounds in 4,5mm diameter with ferrite in it.....We do so to avoid the "spikes" of the 3,3V line.....
We ALSO solder a 1000microfarrad/10V electrolytic capasitor from the Mos-Fet(head) the (+) , to ground the (-).We can find "ground" OVER the Mos-fet where the small brown cappasitors are(all of them are grounded)....
Now after finishing this we go to the chip "FAN5063"....As we can see to the UPPER side of it, there are TWO SMD resistors(black ones) and a capasitor(brown one) ,then it is "THE MISSING" resistor and another TWO resistors as well....
We solder an SMD(or regular) resistor of "470 Ohms" to the LOWER side of the FIRST resistor(form left to right) and the other side of OUR SOLDER resistor ,we solder it at the midle pin of a 10 TURNS trimmer(cermet) of 2 Kohms
The UPER pin of the 10 Turns trimmer , we solder it on the UPER side of the SECOND resistor from left to right....
We solder this "470 Ohms" resistor for "SECURITY" not to BURN anything.....!!!!....
The photo is not very clear so read carefully at what I wrote to do so.....

http://www.pctech.gr/hipro5/photos/ABIT_IT7-Max2/22.jpg

hipro5
01-02-2003, 10:17 PM
Finally,if we want MORE stabillity of our rig,we solder at the BACK side of our Mobo, IN PARALEL with the existing Capasitors ,some more....3300microfarad/3,3V......

I wish you luck and BE CAREFULL with the Modds.....If you are not sure what to do,go to an electronic engineer or to someone who knows some things about electronics....
Post your questions and if you have a problem,I'll help you as much as I can...!!!... ;) :toast:

missing a mod.. vchipset mod! my IT7 MAX2 V2.0 can't pass 197mhz FSB, and at 197mhz it's rock stable but with some video artifacts in 3d with videocard stock speed.... do you know how to make a vchipset mod?? tnx!

I'll try to....but first I have to "study" the cirquit....I'll be back.... ;)

If you mean the capacitors underneath the Motherboard,I only gained 1-2 fsbs but a lot more stabillity at higher frequencies.... ;)

Nice work Hipro5,

If 1.2Kohms give 1.8V agp what resistens do I need to get 1.9V or even 1.95V. I need that to do 450 om the Radeon 9700.
Of course I have made the modding on the videocardS!, but it vil be better to do the mod om the MOB instead. (looking forward to the Nvidia FX next month)
:D
Do you sink a small variabel resister vill do. The soldering is no problem with magnifying glass.

Do you sink, this mod is better than your earlier R164/R160 mod:

This AGP Vmod is for ABIT IT7-Max2 Mobo and for every other Mobo that has the chip LM324 for Vagp....

Now....This is an AGP Vmod......If you solder a 1,5Kohms resistor on the "upper" side of R164(near to pin one of LM324 chip) and the "lower" side of R160 then you get 1,74 Vagp.....If you solder in parallel with this one(1,5Kohms) another one 2,2Kohms you get 1,85Vagp.....

I think that if you put a 820 Ohms Resistor, you'll be able to get about 1,9Vagp...

hipro, you talked about modding the PSU, especially the 3.3V line, right? could you explain how? ive never done a PSU mod, and my Antec TruPower 550W PSU does not have adjustable pots. i dont get good voltages even without mods, i dont trust software monitoring too too much, but ive measured the voltages directly at the ATX connector and winbond hardware doctor seems to be very accurate. here are the MAX voltages ive ever measured either through multimeter or through software:

Vcore is always good, as well as Vram
12V : 11.8V max
5V : 4.97V max
3.3V : 3.28V max
(these were taken with motherboard monitor)
-12V : -7.34V max????
-5V : -2.88V max????

any ideas, tips, questions, whatever, let me know. thanks for any help you can offer.

Winbond monitor DOESN'T measure the -5 and -12 lines, that's why you have these indications in MBM....Now if you don't know how to modd your PSU,then you have to go to someone who knows or who will try to do it,but....he HAS to know about electronics....

i know about hardware doctor not monitoring -5 or -12, but did you see how...high they were? nowhere near -5 or -12, thats for sure. anyhow, ill try to find out if anyone in the chicago area can do this PSU mod for me. i can vmod my mobo, gpu, that kind of stuff, but i cant work with PSU components, never did it, dont wanna risk it :D

are these special resistors i need to get. Cause at Radio Shack the resistors look bigger then the one u have hipro. Is there a special name to the resistors?

Can anybody please tell me why i have 3.04V vmem?

I did the vmem mod as described here but i didn't achieve any higher FSB by running my Twinmos/Winbond at a higher voltage.
Even at 3.3V it didn't want to run faster.
So i carefully removed all the modifications again...and now i'm stuck at 3.04V no matter what i set vmem to in bios!

(btw it's an IT7 Max2 V2 with the one missing resistor)

To get MORE Vmem , you HAVE to Modd your PSU 3,3V Line too.....You have to do it almost 3.6Volts and then you'll get almost 3,3Vmem..... ;)

@hipro5

Did you "clear C-Mos"???

Yep, i flashed back to the latest official bios (D6) and loaded optimized defaults...and still 3.04V (without any modifications left on my mobo)!

Maybe i shorted a resitor, or something when i removed the vmem mod...but it all looks normal to me - no solder left anywhere.

Did you notised if you have broke an SMD (tinny) resistor when you unsoldered the whole thing out???.....That must be your problem......Now to solve this , you HAVE to REDO the Modd again so as to control via Trimmer for the FIRST TIME and then you'll be OK.......

Hipro5 ... you tell me where to look for AGP and VIO mods. I have enough knowledge about electronics such as volts, ohm measurements and soldering skills.

Thanks Hipro5..... by the way... do you prefer to mod Asus P4PE ? Coz P4PE is almost the same mobo with Asus Granite Bay.
