I just picked up an xtreme music x-fi and I took a look at the board. I see a little DIMM IC mounted on the board. But the xtrememusic isn't supposed to have XRAM. Is that memory on there just a buffer or did they pack the wrong card?

Thanks!

Creatve sells the exact same cards for alot of their model line. They just change the device ID and limit the functionality though their drivers. There are more things designed to limit what one of their cards can do than their are features in Creatives drivers.

It just affect your cpu little less than the zs since it has built in mem.
As far as sound quality matter, it has new players and other software.
I am tired of waiting elite pro going down to $350 again.
gonna go order elite pro now before I spend on something stupid :D

Almost, the X-Fi Xtreme Music and Platinum does have RAM. These ship with 2MB chips each and it acts like L2 Cache for the X-Fi Processor. X-RAM will do or perform the duties of Cache and RAM so that's why its Called X-RAM and the 2MB version is not.

That's a 2MB RAM Chip on the X-Fi XM.

Is it worth the upgrade from Audigy ZS ?

It was for me! I still like the Audigy 2 ZS for connection reasons.
