Help me out here guys, need a new PSU. It'll be running a high end system hopefully SLI/Crossfire, Dual core, couple of gigs of ram, few hdd's, the works. Of course, will be running overclocked, most likely vmodded etc as well...

Up til now my choice has been the 600w Powerstream, however many people have suggested maybe this isnt the best of options, and that the 520 is a more capable supply...

Question simply is this, what would be the best supply for ~ 150 GBP or less? Would need adjustable rails if possible, silence is a large factor too, as is being up to the job.
Also note, it needs to be available in the uk.

Loving the 420w powerstream atm, so thinking the 520 or 600 would be the way to go...

Cheers chaps

These seem popular supplies, adjustable rails etc?

Might also be able to get a PP&C SLI 510 for ~ 100 quid... worth it over the OCZ's?

The Seasonic does not have adjustable rails, but who needs them? I specifically recommended the Seasonic since you mentioned you wanted a quiet PSU. Both the OCZ Powerstream 520w and PC P&C 510 would be much louder then thre Seasonic. Also the Seasonic will handle your rig just perfectly.

Bah, the PP&C unit I was after has been sold :( Cant really afford to get one shipped over from the US either...
Its between the 520w powerstream and the Seasonic now lads.!

Personally, I would take the 520W Powerstream. Realtively cheap and very stable, with adjustable rails

The Powerstream 520w would be the best choice.

He said "silence is a large factor too." So the Seasonic should be the obvious choice.

Yes but he said he's loving his Powerstream 420w so noise must be ok for him.

Cheers guys, the 510 SLI is a tad too much to spend (as is the 600w OCZ tbh) gonna "settle" with the 520. If more power is required at a later date then so be it..
Just wanna be able to run the Dothan rig at full pelt, then move it onto a new A64 setup...

Cheers for the advice lads :D

Kooldrew, considering a seasonic for an up coming HTPC cheers for the tips on a silent psu :D

the Tagan TG580-U22 580W is good, really stable, loads of power, quiet...

I didn't realize he already had the 420w.

Well the 520w was ordered, and arrived yesterday.... Firstly this things amazing... Can't get the rails to budge at all, despite running 3.7vDimm, 3.10 vMem and 1.8vGPU, that killed the old Antec, rails dropped to 4.8 and 11.7... Great stuff!!

However, it sounds like a clock :( ticks REALLY badly, which throws thw whole slience thing out of the window for the moment.
Can anyone confirm wether the ticking will put my hardware at risk? From a quick google, it would seem not...

When does the ticking appear?
Is it when the system has been shut down?
If that's the case, then drop bigtoe a PM. I'm sure that he can help you out.

Yes it ticks then. Also theres a little squeeking/faster ticking when the system loads itself too... Had this before with a 420w unit, though it wasnt as bad as this one is.

Yea, I PM'd him last night, gonna be a PITA getting it posted off, for the time being, so just want a re-assurance that its not gonna fail taking hardware with it!

Should normally no big problem.
I had that ticking before with my 520w unit.
Tony said it had something to do with the active PFC module inside the PSU. He shipped me a new one, and I replaced it. Ticking went away, and psu is still working great.

Thats cool, he just shipped you the new PFC unit, and you did it yourself? Hard to do or simple enough...? What about warranty etc?

Very simple to do, but you better talk about it with bigtoe.
