I started using these about 2 days ago and was playing DOOM-3 @ 1600x1200 on ultra quality with the machine you see in my signature.
About 10 minutes from the begining of the game, The screen locks up I get a message from my ATI powered card - "VPU recovery" etc... clock has been reset...etc....

I quit the game, go back to the windows desktop and my whole screen resolution has been reset to 1600x1200, so everthing is painfully small, I like it at 1280x1024 on my 22 inch Philips monitor.

My VGA was NOT overclocked, only some settings in the ASUS bios that can control the Card from a hardware point-of-view, such as PEG root control was set to "enabled" and PEG buffer length was set to "long". Somethings I feel can help to stabilise intense pixel processing.
The PEG link control which can raise the VGA clock speed was set to "auto" by default, and Slot power was on "heavy"

Apart from my ramblings above, has anyone else used these new drivers yet on X800 XT cards with Asus mobo's while playing intense games at high resolutions?

Ive had only good luck with these drivers, i use an X800 Pro but still, the 5.8 cats run all of my games excellently. BF2 is even tolerable and fun to play now.

:D Huh - just looks like a competition: Who's releasing more versions - ATI with the cat driver or OSKAR with the BETA BIOS........... ;)

Disposibleteen, you have a X800 Pro card in your sig, and you have 605mhz for your memory without volt mod, how does it go when benching? Assuming that you bench at that memory speed. :)

I'm really satisfied with these drivers. The b**cha*s problem I had with BF2 (BSODs, dissapearing textures and random graphic corruption) are all gone now, to my joy. Thank you ATi for this, great job.

these 5.8's are shocking, the image quality on a 9800 pro at least is way down on the 5.7 driver, i too have gone back to 5.7 and not been happier, cant help with the issue your having tho

benching goes well with this card, my scores are very low since i run a crappy P4 478 board but there are no arties or anything.

Man, you are one lucky consumer. I get artifacting with mine - which I think is one of the early X800XT's got back in October last year at only 550/535. That is testing with ATItool v0.24 with inbuilt default tests.
After jacking up the RAM bandwidth and testing for stability and errors, I returned to "auto" settings in bios for all vga controls... system much happy now. :)
I'm not worried, I can play Far Cry at same resolution as Doom 3 with max eye candy settings and very smooth in ALL scenes through game except once in "carrier" level.

Wonder what F.E.A.R and eventually QUAKE 4 are going to be like... :)
