Another well done review from them. I think there's some misinformation floating about. Weren't people saying the MCP600/AquaXtreme had higher flow? This review shows otherwise (as long as you're under 10 feet of head).

So Swiftech just puts there sticker on em and markets them as a MCP-655?

I guess so, just like DD sells them as the D5.

Only thing missing I'd like to know is noise at 14 VDC, dunno if it's worth it replacing my PC PSU with a 13,8 Volt one for my 2 D5s.

noise prolly isnt too bad i suspect even at 14v.

i thought the D5 didn't overvolt? that article suggests otherwise.

They don't above 14 VDC, so 12 Volts is basically undervolting if i remember correctly. Anything over 14 Volt will not bring anything.

exactly.. its rated for 13.8 volts. 12volts is one of the specs its tested to run at, but 13.8 is the max it was rated to run at.

If it worth it to run it at a higher voltage, can't be that much of a gain??

It's only a small gain (~ +12% head pressure) as you can see from the review, but in my case i am running a secondary PSU for my external WC rig anyway, and PC PSUs have a terrible degree of effiency at low load, so why not go with a 13,8 Volt PSU straight away?

edit: Lee answered my email, the noise increase from 12 V - 14 V is barely noticeable.

I just got my MCP-655 in and its very quiet and doesn't vibrate as much as my 1048

very pleased :D

overvolting will dump more heat into the loop though so its a trade off of head pressure vs heat

D5 has greater head than 50z and also puts out more heat than 50z, if you have large radiator then D5 is your choice and medium to small then 50z will be better choice

i've had my mcp655 for almost a month now. its almost guaranteed you wont hear it unless you have absolutely silent fans on the radiator and elsewhere.

but then again, im pretty deaf from high end air cooling of the past ;)

seriously tho, i cant hear this thing at all.

hey dust, which PSU are you using? i'm looking for a SMALL, space efficient power option as i'm running out of room. O.O and i definitely want to overvolt my D5 as i need every bit of flow i can get for that Swiffy G4

Prolly won't help you since I am on 220 Volts 50 Herz, so i will use this one (http://deutsch.ivt-hirschau.de/content.php?parent_id=CAT_11&doc_id=DOC_38). Still havn't decided if I will do it, as I have to run 12V/5V to my external rig for my fans anyway.
