Ok I have spotted these four power supplies on newegg, all of which fit my budget and look promising. I would like to go with the FSP @ $50 but I know theres alot more to a power supply then the specifications, and it could be a cheapo PSU that wouldn't deliver stable power :slobber: Ok anyhow here are the PSU's, I'm just looking for a little advice on which one to use for my upgrade.

Enermax Whisper II:

Antec Smartpower:

That FSP looks very decent for $50 psu, may be worth a look.

Edit: Opon further examination it appears the FSP is only 400 watts (450 max) while the smartpower is 500w output:

I guess you get what you pay for.

First of all what will you be powering? I do not recommend the Enermax because of hearing a lot of things of the +12v drooping under heavy CPU load. The Antec SP series is just weak. I also do not recommend the OCZ Modstream. The best PSU you will find around that price range is the Fortron AX500-A.

Ok here's what I'll be powering:

3000+ AMD Venice (overclocking this)
Haven't completely decided on the mobo (probably a DFI or MSI)
XFX 6600 GT (possibly overclocking)
1 GB Patriot RAM (overclocking this)
1x 120 mm fan
2x 80 mm fans
Zalman 7700 CPU HS
NEC DVD-RW Drive
Logitech x-230 2.1 speakers
a network card
sound card (maybe)
Logitech mx518 gaming mouse
keyboard

Thats about all I can think of
:p:

I could go with a 520w powerstream but It'd take me a little while to get that kind of money ($120 w/ shipping on pricegrabber).

The powerstreams are good but imo not worth what they cost you can get psu's just as good for less such as the Enermax 535w and the Fortron 550w's.
