Now that i have a good job, and have some money to spend, im gonna upgrade my rig. So far my list is:
1)New PSU (mine sucks hard)
2)PC4400 Memory (gonna be corsair from newegg at $216 for a gig)
3)DDR Booster (for cleaner power and the ability to feed more than 2.8V thru this dang mobo w/o modding it)
4)Some blue led fans. (those damn orange ones that came with the case have gotta go)
So heres my problem. I am absolutly torn between the ModStream and Powerstream PSU's. I am looking at the 520W ones BTW. hes my current rig *WARNING, Hi RES PIC, 56k'ers beware! http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p13000014io.jpg As you can see by my case/radiator/led fan on the rad./vid card, i like the blue. So, i know the Modstream would look GREAT with this, especially with the minimal cables which are also pretty. BUT i also know that not only Is the Powerstream rated at 5 more Volts on the 12V, but
that supposedly Modular plugs make for a little current loss that is equal to adding 2 feet of cable. So, the scores and speeds listed in my sig were done with a piece of crap Thermaltake 480W with 18 measly friggin amps on the 12V :nono: :slapass: . So i figure that the with nearly twice the output, the powerstream would rock this prescotts world, but i HATE the green light, and mess of cables. (I already have that). So after all this crap, my question is do you think that 28A on the 12V for the Modstream should be sufficiant? I mean, if i can OC my rig as shown in my sig with a crap PSU with 18A, 28 should be great right? I am only runnin 1 HD, 2 optical drives, and the hardware listed in my sig. Any ModStream users feedback would be great. :toast:
*EDIT* I JUST found this: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=70775 that guy is usin one to power an fx57 based system thats very similar to mine spec wise i think, hes even got a cathode, which i heard draw lots o juice.

The modstreams are fine, I have both here, and I build my own friggin bench PSU's and I'm tellin ya both are rock solid stable

28a is more than enough for your system.

The Powerstream is a much better PSU. I do not even recommend the Modstream. Check out the article at Xbit labs when they tested the modstream and you will see why I don't recommend them.

hmm ill go read that right now. I know OCZ has excellent customer service...maybe if i buy the modstream and it sucks butt, i can pay the difference and get a powerstream instead....

The BQT P4-450W couldn’t boast stable output voltages, and the ModStream OCZ-520 cannot, either. I think it’s already clear that this PSU doesn’t have any auxiliary regulators, like the models of the PowerStream series.

powerstream sounding better....

So, the power supply from OCZ leaves a most pleasant impression with its highest build quality, attention to various details, detachable cables and quiet operation. I think that the OCZ ModStream deserves to be called an “open platform for modding” more than the Ryanpower2 from A.C. Ryan (these two PSUs can be considered competing products, at least in terms of functionality and target user groups). The latter company should follow the example and improve the quality of manufacture of its PSUs. On the other hand, the OCZ ModStream is inferior to the Ryanpower2 in the actual parameters, first of all in the stability of the output voltages. So, OCZ should also make some improvements – to the electronics of the PSU. I think that a PSU of the PowerStream class, even without the manual voltage control but with the functionality of the ModStream series, would be a highly successful solution. So, if you’re going to buy a power supply with detachable wires – and this is really a helpful feature – then you’re facing a difficult choice: the Ryanpower2 is more stable, while the OCZ ModStream is better in terms of build quality and user-friendly design. If you’re going for a PSU from OCZ Technology, I would recommend to you to pay attention to models from the PowerStream series instead.
hmm looks like PowerStream it is... thanks for referring me to a good article.

i wonder how easy changing that damn green fan would be.... http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage.asp?image=17-104-152-01.JPG,17-104-152-02.JPG,17-104-152-05.JPG,17-104-152-03.JPG,17-104-152-07.jpg,17-104-152-04.JPG,17-104-152-08.jpg,17-104-152-09.jpg&CurImage=17-104-152-04.JPG&Description=OCZ%20OCZ520ADJ%20ATX%20520W%20Power%2 0Supply%20-%20Retail

I wouldn't recommend you doing that as you'll void the 5yr warranty

Ocz fan is nice.. low noise and does its job.
If you want to get non led fans ge pc p&c 510 it comes with a black fan.

The PowerStream is a much better PSU with 1% load regulation, adjustable rails & a 5yr warranty.

The green fan is not bright or loud.
Get the PowerStream 520W. :toast:

Xbit Labs by far writes the best PSU reviews out of any site I have come across. Too bad they don't review power supplies more often :(

but at 70 more bucks :fact: powerstream its going to be. I guess i can deal with the fan, after all, my mobo has those damn brigth green leds under the BLUE OTES shroud :slap: i guess ill have to live with blue/green color scheme.

Take off that OTES cover and point a fan at the area, the reported PWM temps will drop into the single digets with a room temp of 20C. Yeah, the mobo probe is lieing to you.

even without those "heatsink" pieces of crap that go on them? or should i get some copper heatsinks for video ram or something...ive been meaning to do this for a while too... because i know the OTES cant be all that good, with its crappy aluminum heatsink things.
