Ram was installed in my mobo (was swapping ram) after install i arranged some wireing & apparently pushed ram lock swich just enough to unseat upper half. Turned on comp. smelled the dreaded smell & shut down power.
Found both contacts. Doesn't appear to be any other damage. Don't know if it affected ram slot yet, there is small black spot on pin slot #8. Slot 15 look's normal.

Pic #1 right hand side mounted vertically.
#2 little closer
#3 opposite side

Has this been done to your knowledge. I would take the U out of the equation and let CAT or Malves do there thing if possible.

No, i was wondering if that was option. Where would i look to find out what these control.I think pin #9 is v's but i'm allmost positive that pin is on the undamaged side (slot with small #1 on it)
I will be testing ram slot tomorrow with old (cheap ) stick and see if it is damaged, that really doesn't concern me though as i only run 2 on that board anyway. If it can be soldered Catalyst.X or Malves have the skills.

There is a pinout for the DDR socket here (http://www.mobel.com/PDF/DDR3200datasheet.pdf). It looks like it is just ground and voltage supply lines which are damaged. It might be safe to run the RAM without these pins (if it still works), but it would be best if you can get the contacts repaired

Sell it on Ebay as 'defective' with no reserve :D great way to get rid of old kit and there's always people who have lost smd parts etc from their sticks while removing heatsinks.

I did this with an 9800XT that someone had damage with watercooling, was working perfect after I did it. I glued on some contacts, and conected them with rear window paint thing.. It worked until I gave it much volt's :/

I fixed one memory stick for someone on a forum for free once using the defogger kit idea. It is possible, but I don't know of the circumstances of how their stick got damaged, maybe one of the pads was just mis-attached from the factory so when it broke off the rest of the stick didn't face and damage. Your sticks might have more damage.

I'm not fixing anything else for free, don't contact me, I just tried that one stick as a challenge for myself. I needed to scratch off a little bit of the trace right above where the pin should have been and connect that to the pin area and fill the area in.
