Well for all those waiting for the great equalizer, here it is. This is all about your CPU and your memory, raw and fast let's see what you have.....

Seems to be a lot of A64's around, where are the Intel guys!! let's get rumbling :) :toast:

Double check that the msecs aren't transposed?

I've done that one a couple of times.

Question shouldn't we also have a cpu-z screenie in the shot for verification of cpu? Glad we finally got week 4 rolling. :)

Wouldn't it be appropriate to have at lest one cpu-z open when you take the screen capture?
EDIT: oops...... nevermind I see someone already mentioned that..... :D

Is there any optimizations or tricks to help to score better in this bench?

Trimming 200ms really seems hard to go in the high 27s

I don't know to be honest as I am not a mod here, just chipping in to keep the train moving as it were. I think Maxx said he was talking to here today... I am unknowing however..

Streamlined OS with as little running as possible and FAST CPU's and FAST memory... you are fast, don't sweat it...

Hell, compared to me, everyone is fast... 43 Seconds!?!?  I know this rig can do 39, but will I get it there in time? At least I get to move my rig to my Former Darkroom, where ambient is 5c or so cooler, should improve things a bit... I'm just waiting to see what the Dothan Owners pull out of the bag...

To get the your ID number written at the bottom of CPU-Z , go to the About tab in CPU-Z. Than click the validation button. Once there, save the validation file to your hdd. Next step (#2) is to upload it to the validation webpage. If it pass, you will get an ID written at the top of the validation web page. Take note of that ID and enter it in Step #3 in CPU-Z, click OK.
Your ID will than be showed at the bottom of your CPU-Z screenshot :woot:

went from 28s235 to 27s985 with 7Mhz more on CPU, tightening mem timings and closing more services...
Forgot to close MBM5  The wall on this CPU is right after that.
10 more Mhz => no SuperPi 1MB
more Vcore than 1.65V is a no go, freezing on desktop

My venice and OCZ VX doesn't seem to like voltage that much. VX max voltage is 3.3V, CPU max is 1.65V *sigh* Anything higher results hard locks or BSOD :(

dude, its a s754 you know.........i'd need to pull about 3ghz to pull that time with this ram which doesnt do anything lower than 2.5 4 8 4 1t, lol the 1t is the best bit

specs: a64 3000+ clocked around 2.4ghz
k8n neo platinum
the afforementioned geil crap, sorry, ram
9800se @ pro+

maybe downgrading for a while was a bad move but still, just let me at the r520's if they ever arrive :p:

That is kinda a sorry mess, but that proc isn't really that slow compared to a 939 is it? I mean I know the memory is not the best but still..... Anyone else know what is going on here?

Well timings and clocks is everything in this one. Dual channel mem is a def. plus. Could be there are too many services runnin. Try and kill anything I mean anything that isn' needed. ;)

wel you can still run the benches and compete in each category, and maybethere will even be prizes in the categories for each bench and not only in the overall grand prix rating :)

Vapor
08-07-2005, 07:51 AM
Alright, I'll keep that in mind. No sense in me running 01 or SPI...X2s are just to cumbersome to OC to high levels. To my knowledge I am the only one in the competition with a dual core :stick:

saaya
08-07-2005, 08:05 AM
no, im not making a dual core category for ya :P :D

j/k hehe

well it seems a long time competition isnt really such a great idea as more and more people seem to drop out over time because of failing hw and vacations etc :/

do you guys think the next grand prix should be 4 days in a row or something? or 2 weekends maybe? i figured 4 benches is enough anyways, or we could run 2 benches each day... any ideas? :)

Vapor
08-07-2005, 08:17 AM
A shorter life is definitely a good idea...2 days per event sounds about right to me.

I like the fact that it's a bit of an endurance race spread over multiple tests myself. I entered though I knew I had no chance against some of this high end hardware, I just wanted to try and push the envelope of this particular rig. It's not even a money issue, I'm just not a gamer and buying a 7800 would be pointless for moi.

But it's pure fun to just have the competition, hey I've benched CPU's for years and even I was forced to learn something... (like the fact that my TCCD plats actually DO run at 315 no sweat, with a little patience and tweaking)

We could also do "snap races" three benches in a day, fixed hardware requirements (like F1). Not too fixed, but I mean things like 8 pipe cards this week, more the next -beats me but something should be doable...

Jamo
08-07-2005, 08:29 AM
yeah i agree it certainly is starting to drag on a little, 2 - 3 days sounds about fine

have the categorys been decided yet? cos i was looking into how we can divide it up fairly and i just dont see how, eg. you could go by graphics cards but they had no part to play in spi etc...going by cpu and this doesnt take into account graphics

InSanCen
08-07-2005, 11:53 AM
It's gonna be hard to split things up... My CPU is bad compared to others for Superpi (AXP1700), but I managed to pull 52K outta Aquamark 3... not as high as others, but damn good for this rig.

I'll be interested to see how this works out

Entity_Razer
08-07-2005, 12:09 PM
Reserved place for my rig. I'll post the scores/screens tomorrow. I got 44.019 or something out of my barton clocked at 2300MHZ but due to my PSU I can't go any higher so... :)

I'll tweak the little things tomorrow and i'll report back :)

So, keep this seat open folks :)

harleybro
08-07-2005, 01:22 PM
Just a suggestion all 2d benches run in a day or 1 weekend. The reason is you just have to worry about cpu ocing and not gpu could normally blow through them much quicker. :)

but if your busy or out of town on that day, your pretty screwed, i think 2 - 3 days would be best or maybe 3 a week at a push

shinymod
08-08-2005, 01:09 AM
3 a week would be pushing it.... there's always specific tweaks for the benchies you run, and i'm pretty busy these days, i only just have time to get a good result out of one...
although i'd appreciate sticking to 2d benches atm since my peltier wire snapped a few days ago and my x800 isnt a fan of above ambient temps....

saaya
08-08-2005, 03:20 AM
hmmmm what about having 1 week to run 6 benches?
and you can run all 6 benches in a row on any day if you want or run them in any particular order you prefer... do you guys like that idea?

then wed still have the xtreme marks and people could go figure what bench they spend most time on as they have more chances on that particular bench to increase their overall rating. or do you like the idea of having several dates to bench on? we could go week1 bench 1 2 and 3 and week2 bench 4 5 and 6 :)

Jamo
08-08-2005, 03:28 AM

Here's an ancient old Ugly trick....put you tower in bath filled with ICE/WATER/SALT (brine) you should find your thermals will do better without dropping temps to the point where you get condensation... wait till the tower is warm before you do this..... it DOES work, if you don't get 10c lower Ugly will lick your toes for you (if that doesn't make ya puke nothing will)
