I'm on newegg and I cannot decide what one to buy for a PC i'm building a family member. Needs to be cheap but cool the proc decently. It's so easy to choose one when money isnt much of an issue but I need to stay under $400 total for this system. Going to be cooling an XP1600. So, which would you recommend from neweggs (http://www.newegg.com/app/manufactory.asp?catalog=62&DEPA=1) stock?

I don't know what you consider "cheap", but I just bought 3 of the swiftech HSs at Newegg for $34 each..... Swiftech MCXC370-CB, Copper base (They work great and will last forever. You have to add a fan and $6 shipping).

Yeah I was thinking of something much cheaper. Even though that is an excelent deal its gonna break my spending limit. The $10 ones are what I'm looking at, but I have no idea if they cool very well at all.

Thanks for the reply though!

http://www.nexfan.com/29/299.htm?547 at $17.99 is as cheap as I'd go for any HSF.

Be very careful about scrimping in the cooling department of your budget...to my way of thinking, that and the PS are the places to splurge.:D

Remember you get what you pay for! Pay now or pay later, all these fit this situation. Spend alittle extra on the cooling.:)

You're all absolutely correct I was just hoping I could find one that was "good enough". I think I did though, from Vantec all copper and only $19. Should keep it cool enough. Thanks again for the replies!

TaiSol 760 is a great liitle cooler for the price :)

Copper bottomed, fairly quiet and decent cooling.

Held my XP1600+ @ 1763 1.85v at around 49-50c in a Lian Li PC60 under full load.

The reason I changed it was for future cooling and I wanted a larger quieter fan (ie Panaflo)

The Volcano 9 isn't a bad cooler for the price either

you can pick up a sk7 for $19.99 at svc. just toss a low cfm 80mm fan on it and you've got yourself a quiet and efficient HSF.
