Looking to upgrade to 2GB..which is a better config for My winchester setup 2x1024Mb or 4x 512Mb? I have heard some rumors about 4x512Mb not running in Dual channel and going down to DDR333 performance?

My current setup in my signature.

thanks.

i say get 2x1gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer, but that's my opinion. some people have the bug of the performance being reduced to 333 but i think that's a bios issue? not sure. but most people have to reduce to 2T for 4x512mb to do well. with 2x1gb you'll should be able to sell it easier or upgrade if need be. :)

my 2 cents.

as far as i know, it's not a bug, it's just a poor memory controller on the winchesters. Venice CPUs have the improved memory controller, that can handle 4x512 at ddr400 speeds. So for winchester 2x1gb is definitely better. I don't know thoguh if you would be able to run that in 1t, but at least it would be ddr400.

As for 4x512, i don't think that ever runs with 1t, you have to use 2t to get all 4 sticks to work.

Check out the memory section, there's a lot of info there.

I would get 2x 1gb because even though you might be able to overclock higher with the 4x512. I would get Crucial Ballistic Tracers because they overclock almost the same.
