Windows XP 64bit is a whole stand alone operating system - "XP" is just the name MS gave it because of its identical features to 32bit Windows XP. It can just run in 64bit mode and thus will need 64bit drivers and 64bit CPU plus extra capability for more memory.

XP 64 will and can be installed with regular XP, preferably in a separate partition in a multi boot environment. It's easier for a rookie to do this after installing regular XP first. I used a separate drive, just for the sake of argument and because I have many. I don't recommend installing them in the same parrtition. Once XP is installed just go ahead and install XP 64, it will be aware of the other installation adn preserve the boot record so that you can choose to launch either OS at startup.

Have fun
