Has anyone EVER succeded in overclocking a G5? It's been ages since they were released, but I haven't seen anything *proven*, not even on xlr8yourmac which is usually the best place for this sort of thing.

It isn't the price... people were overclocking the g4s back when they cost just as much.

Yeah they go easily from 800-1.42 on stock cooling

But the G5 are VERY hot.......liquid cooling or a MASSIVE heatsink

that only has an effect on laptops doesnt it? my friends eMac only doesn't give
the option to change cpu performance like my powerbook does.

emac's are using G4 afaik
The G5 is already pretty streched out on the current configs, they seem to have reach some kind of limits at 2.5. Apple oc's them with some liquid cooling allowing to run @ 2.7. I think it's harder to oc them because of the architecture also, the circuit around the cpu is pretty complex. Or maybe no one ever found the need for an oc'ed G5 :D

Both the Dual 2.5 and 2.7 are liquid cooled ;)

The 2.3 used to be wc'ed to run at 2.5 and now the 2.5 is wc'ed to run at 2.7
In the new PB's only the 2.7 is wc'ed ;)
