Whatever driver works best for you, I think would be fairest. I dont think there are "hidden drivers" that only a select few have access to.

all drivers are fine for aq3 :)

the drivers that work best for 3dmark dont always score better in aq3 as well, there are some driver reviews out there comparing different forceware versions, could be worth to check out those reviews :D

does aq3 also score best at the first run or does it score higher after the first run?

From what I have seen on AM3 you can run rerun and keep running without a real change.

One thing I have noted in AM3 with my 9800XT is that at a high enough speed, the score will actually lessen. :stick:

That's nasty, any idea why?

I think I can totally take the class for x700's (I know big whoop de doo)

Vapor

IDK why, but it also artifacts noticably less than other benchmarks...no clue why.

I think my 7800GTX also has this problem. I ran one at 2.4GHz 496/1420 and got 90k while I ran another at 2.65 525/1460 LOD +15 and only got 94k....something's up.

Bloody_Sorcerer
07-18-2005, 10:14 PM
throttling? same thing happens to my 6800, it just suddenly starts slowing down, giving scores lower than stock...

Vapor

IDK how AM3 can throttle a 9800XT though...w/e. My 7800GTX runs are weird, still playing with those.

Vapor
07-18-2005, 11:00 PM
Alright, those scores are as good as it'll get for now....not sure how I got 90k on the slower speeds though....turned down LOD to +3 on these settings and got 91k.

My GPU needs more volts too....even on aircooling. Artifacting at 530 MHz a lil too much and the card is still only warmish....

LOD = Level Of Detail ?

Anyways, 5.6's gave me good scores.

first time with this benchmark...

i get 80,250 with a winchester at 2570mhz, 512MB BH-5 @ 257mhz 2-2-2-11 and x800xt at 500/500 and 80,800 with the x800xt at 563/567....

that doesn't seem right to me... also when i get back into windows i notice that atitool now shows 500/500 again  i had this bug with 3dmark 03 as well and it seemed to affect my score, any ideas anyone!? i'm stumped.

Def. need the vmods. ;) Couldn't break 540 on cool water at 1.5v which is higher than stock.

Shineymod: Might be going too high on core I think and it is resetting itself try backing down and see what it does. Also make sure to check off vgpu recover I think that caused problems when I ran it w/ the x850xt. :)

shinymod
07-19-2005, 05:41 AM
yeah i have vpu recover turned off, i'll try with a lower core speed, thanks :)

EDIT: 550/550 no reset 83K+ if only i'd known that for '03 :brick: now to work out how to stop it resetting so that i can run with decent clocks...

I was wondering about the driver issue also. It states in your rules post that only FM approved drivers may be used for this competition.

Rule#12
Q. "Can we use any driver we want?"
A. "sorry, no. please only use futuremark approved drivers."

So has that rule now been changed after the start of the Comp?

May have applied only to that first benchmark

I think it was said somewhere that you can use whatever driver you want for AM3. I know it is FM approved drivers only for the 3D0X benches though.

Interesting findings here....I got 96538 with my 4400+ @ 275x10 and my 7800GTX at 525/1450 (highest I can run with zero artifacts....seems to help in AM3) yet I get 913xx at 460/1300, so AM3 definitely seems to be much more CPU intensive (where my X2 is gonna stuggle). A 15%/11% graphics OC shouldn't yield only a 5% increase in score, should it? It also seems that AM3 is much more CPU OC sensitive than 01 is...I can run 01 at 2830 but my best score in AM3 is at 2750 (I can run it at 2810ish, but it gets a lower score).

I scaled my GPU and MEM speed up slowly and it's definitely the highest score I get with my stock cooling. Any faster or slower and I get a lower score...:stick:

Amazing gpu clocks Harleybro. Is that still just chilled water? And what kind of volts are ya pushing through there?

Gryph

harleybro
07-20-2005, 07:28 PM
Yup just chilled water about 9c or so. Vgpu is around 1.74 or so. Just finding I can get better mem clocks too. As the ice in my cooler was meltin I started havin probs runnin the same cpu clocks so I stopped but had mem up to 1431 artifact free so last attempts had been 660/1431 think I'll get it tomorrow maybe 1450 on mem.

Vapor: Yeah cpu and timings are a huge plus in AM3. I think when I was testing in the past I was gaining about 1000pts. for every 100mhz.

shinymod
07-20-2005, 11:34 PM
this makes no sense >.< i just flashed to xt pe bios, and the clocks reset, but not only that.... now that i can run 550/560 without it resetting (rather than 550/550) because the pe bios is 560 stock mem, i get an even lower score!! what is going on!

Gryph
07-21-2005, 12:11 PM
I am impressed Harleybro. I would be afraid to run that much voltage through my 7800 even if I had chilled water. I did volt mod mine but I wont go over 1.6 on the core since I am still on air. I do get a little more out of my memory on this on card. It will run 1450 without a volt mod.

Gryph

Vapor
07-21-2005, 12:44 PM
I'm really thinking I should do a voltmod as well...I can do 525/1470 with few artifacts on stock cooling and I think 625/1500 is my benchable goal for watercooling (unchilled), but I'm sure I'll need a voltmod for that... 600/1475 is my goal for 24/7 stability.

These goals are probably way too high, but better that than aiming too low, IMO.

harleybro
07-21-2005, 02:07 PM
Gryph: Yeah I might be turning down the voltage a bit. Was hitting 660 but cooler was running out of ice so had to stop. Actually gluein on some ramsinks now. The thermal tape IMO was just not cutting it. When I pulled the sinks off I saw they where making contact with 1/2 of each chip or less.

Vapor: 639 is where I started to artifact w/ vgpu set at 1.52 or so. The 1500 is definately not out of reach for yours modded IMO. Probably even higher modded. I think my card only hit around 1414 on the stock cooler but didn't play for it long enough to be sure.

Vapor
07-21-2005, 09:05 PM
I know I can run 1485 on stock cooling with artifacts...never tried higher. I just glued some OCZ copper ramsinks on (putting my watercooling on my system finally :stick: ) and hope to hit 1500 with zero vmods. With the mods I'm aiming for a little over 1515 or so.

Do you remember your core OC on stock cooling (did you ever use stock cooling?!). I can run 534 before it locks up.

ok i guess i have a preaty basic question when running aquamark 3 v3 i get through all the tests but at the last big bang it pops up the mouse cursor and gives me this box and says:

note i downloaded this a couple of times and scaled back all my timings to default speeds. installed this on my other machiene and it works fine.
uninstalled it and reinstalled it. i am using the catylist 5.6 drivers for my ATI X800XL
any help would be appreciated

i dont think ricky tweak affects aquamark, with your rig you should be killing me, altho this is the best dam R3xx based card i've had and its a SE with crappy 3.3ns ram :( cores good to about 480 tho, this is stock cooling, with a 92mm fan pointed at it

Maybe just not a very good card, out of the four cards I got one of them would not do over 480/1300 without artifacts so I returned that one cause it sucked. Out of the other three all of them would do atleast 520+/1400 on stock air. However one of the cards would do 560+/1450 on stock air. So it comes down to the luck of the draw to a point.

I am sure a volt mod would help, it allowed my best card to go over 600+ on non stock air. I am sure I could push it even farther if I had better cooling.

Same...my card, now watercooled with RAMsinks and three fans on it runs COLD (not a single warm spot!) to the touch...GPU idles at 33C in a 25C room. Not sure about load. I barely gained any OC by going to water...ugh.
