Hey, im in the exact same situation! Im getting a 3000+ vience and the NF3 DFI board. Do you want AGP ? if not, get a DFI NF4 board.

A good 3000+ Venice and a AN8 Ultra would do the job ;) if you can spare a little more then i suppose you can go the DFI board but the ABIT is quite a bit cheaper :toast:

i was thinking more along the lines of this

mobo: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail 166

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail 267

it does go a little above budget but what do u think

I think the Asus board is a poor choice for an overclocker.

I say that the best choice for an A64 s939 mobo is undoubtedly

DFI NF4-Ultra or DFI NF4-SLI-D/DR

The CPU should be a 3200+ or a 3000+ Venice.

What RAM do you have, drtitanium0?

sad to say I have value 512 mb simpletech ram I hope to upgrade soon any way does any body think it's neccasary to get 3500+ rather than a 3200+

No need to get a 3500+, you will save cash on a 3200+ and even more on a 3000+. They will all overclock about to the same level.

What is your graphic card? AGP or PCI-E?

i have an agp ati radeon 9600 and was also wondering if I should upgrade to a pci card in my opinion I think it would be a waste of money

Ok so if you plan on keeping your 9600, then take the DFI NF4 AGP mobo with the 3000+ and you have no even spend all you 400$ :D

drtitanium0

do they even make an nf4 agp mobo

Ugly n Grey

the 9600 is a pretty low end card these days, upgrading to a newer card (PCI-E or AGP) might be nice. But do what feels good, it's your loot.

First off, if you are in a short budget, why are you getting a SLI board?

you can get this:
XFX Geforce 6800GT 256MB PCI-E (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150091) for only $301 (S&H included)
XFX is the best company for nVidia cards and they OC realy well.
If you buy this card, you can OC it over 6800 Ultra speeds, and latter on you can get another XFX 6800 GT when it gets cheaper.

Note that before getting another 6800 GT, you will need a really powerful PSU
If you dont have the money for that

If you think you cant afford a new 6800 GT and SLI PSU in the future, get a single core solution.

Single core mobo:
DFI nF4 Ultra-D (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136152) for $140

Single core video card
x850xt-pe PCI-E (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102474) for $440
