That is really not a very powerful PSU by today's standards.

P4 2.4, socket 478, 1gb corsair value ram, 6600GT AGP, ASRock VIA mobo, 80GB ATA barracuda, sotck HS,Did you get a SmartPower 400W or a SmartPower II 400W?

On the sticker on the PSU what are the +12V rails rated for?

the 2.0, 14a is the +12VIf it is a "2" then it has +12V1 & +12V2.

What are the missing numbers?

Yes a good psu will make your system more stable, get a higher oc and even better performance than a crappy generic one.

a 400w psu should have no problems with that system, although 14A on the 12v rail isint much...

I posted this in your "Freezing in CS:S (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=68738)" Thread
Maybe this could help

hey, I jsut remember something.

Im also having problems with HL2DM. It crashes to Windows with a looping sound because of Creative's drivers.

I have EAX and THX calibrated in my audio settings, and I have the DirectX hardware aceleration activated. I also have 5.1 surround sound and high quality audio in my HL2DM settings. With these settings, the creative drivers have a conflict with the DirectX acelerator when stuff like EAX are enabled.I noticed that when I played with HL2DM set up at 2.1, I get a sound loop wile I play games, but it doesnt crash. Once someone blew up a RPG close to me and the beeping sound was looping all th time (really anoying). I went to the audio settings and changed back to 5.1. The looping beep sound stoped, and I had 5.1 surround, but the game crashed shortly afther that.

Right now Im trying to find a way to get the Audigy drivers stable, without loosing 5.1 surround, and losing audio quality.
Aparently disableing the Hardware Aceleration on your DirectX settings fixes the problem, but I would like to know if Ill lose audio quality doing this.
Im also looking if some custom driver exists (like Omega with ATI) to see if it gets more stable.
And yes, Im using the CD drivers. Updating with the drivers on the Creative site just makes it more unstable

Indeed, Crative's drivers suck :slapass:

This could also be your problem.
Make sure you get that PSU so your PC is safe.
If you have a Sound Blaster card, this could also be an issue

At least now you have a safe voltage. Could be worst if you kill your hardware
